Yes Blackburn do deserve some flak but they made up for all that bad with the Buccaneer It still surprises me though that with 2500 horsepower they could only get this plane, a single seat aircraft ( a beefy one but still not huge) to only 340 mph. This just seems so completely wrong in my head. You'd figure with that kind of power at like 10,000 feet it would make near 400 mph easily. It's very weird something is just wrong. So was it weight ? Well it can't be that either since its a heavy plane but not as heavy as a P-47 which was doing well over 400 with a similar ( actually smaller engine) and a much bigger radial engine at that, thus way more drag. So what's going on here ? Why the low speed of the design. To my eyes doesn't look too draggy and Ed even stated that they worked hard on getting it to be as aerodynamic as possible. I just dont get it. 🙄🙄
