The grand-scale is NOT the numbers arriving. It is the total incompetence of the home office in processing applications. Many of the assessors are completely unqualified for the job! You can be selling sausage rolls in Greggs on Friday and then assessing asylum cases on Monday!!!

While we are on the subject, I spent 35 years in the NHS supporting the most vulnerable people including asylum-seekers. I have attended immigration hearings. I have also stood for election to public office. What have you done? Nothing!

  21.  @gillianr-w8720  70% of asylum applicants are successful. Those who should not be here should be quickly removed. As recently as during Theresa May’s tenure as Home Secretary, 90% of cases were assessed within 6 months (in line with other countries in Europe). That has dropped to less than 4% under this current failure of a Home Secretary. Until the government fixes the issue of its own making, those that are found to be here illegally will continue to drain public resources. Of course, the utter stupidity of Brexit makes it even more difficult to remove those who shouldn’t be here. The government has engineered this non-issue to rile up its base and distract from the utter decimation of the country that they, alone, are responsible for.
