Greece from start to finish has been artificially pumped with Western loans, membership in NATO, EU, etcetera etcetera. Even the concept of "founders of Western civilization" was taught to them by their Western liberators...The project was to sever centuries of Oriental cultural alignments and links, and the birth of "Europe"/Europeanness. Without Western involvement, Greece wouldn't be any more advanced than Tunisia, Lebanon and other Mediterranean countries exporting olive oil and tourism... Greeks got indebted to become Europeans.

Greeks were compelled by Europe to fight against Ottomans. They were even compelled to name themselves "Greeks" and not Romaioi (Romans) because the West didn't want confusion with their own (Latin) Rome.

@Thenoisyoneyes History is authored by the winners. The West told your ancestors they better not call their independent country "Rome" and told them to call it Greece, lol. This is chronicled by history. When they come across the Pontic (Anatolian) Greeks and asked them who are you, they replied "We are Romans".

Check my comment. Even the choice of name "Greeks/Greece" was imposed on them. They wanted to call themselves Romaioi (Romans). "Byzantine Empire" is a Western concept the Byzantines never used themselves.

@Thenoisyoneyes I'm telling you the Greeks didn't call themselves Greeks or even Hellenes during their war of independence... Westerners who got contact high from all those years reading Oddyssey and Iliad in elementary school and having a YEARNING to liberate the lands of Homer, Achilles etc what they believe to be founders of Western civilization is what led to the present state of affairs. It was a friggin German businessman who even bothered with advocating the historicity of those mythological (till then) places. It was a Westerner who discovered Troy, and not Greeks...just like Egyptian archaeology to this day is conducted by Westerners, while no Egyptian archalogist bothers digging in Iraq or vice versa. Inspite both being Arab speaking countries...Your weltschauung (world views) and your biographies have been authored by the West. Is there an Egyptian archaeological team digging in Mesopotamia? Are there any Iraqis going to Egypt to study ancient military alliances between Dynastic Egypt and say, Babylonia? Nope, you just consume what Western academia and $$$ produces. Everybody's. It is what is is broski, we are all mentally colonized by the West.

@hanagreg yeah, he calls me a "5 year old", but he is the one with the schoolboy understanding of history, not me... As for sources for my claims (regarding Greeks compelled by west to call themselves so) it is from Lars Brownsworth's book "Lost to the West: The Forgotten Byzantine Empire that rescued Western Civilization"

@ResistanceIndia Why Greece not as poor as Armenia, Moldova, Georgia etc? Because of the West pumping loans for centuries and artificially keeping Greece's economy afloat. All because they didn't want Greece to fall under Russian/soviet sphere. But your natural sphere of influence is Russia.
