  1. What I heard is that Gov Walz put in his retirement papers after 24 years, applied to run for Congress, then his unit deployed six months after his retirement went through. The National Guard probably has a lot of bureaucracy, and maybe it takes forever for paper work to get fully finalized, but it seems there were several months between his decision to retire and run for Congress, and the deployment of his old unit.

In terms of the border, I have a feeling VP Harris would be happy to discuss the bipartisan immigration bill that Sen Lankford (R) spent months developing, that the pumpkin head prohibited his followers from voting on. The bill would have hired additional border personnel, purchased the technology needed to screen vehicles passing through the border to detect hidden fentanyl contraband, plus hire additional hearing officers to speed asylum hearings and clear up the years of backlogged cases that the pumpkin head left behind. These "power of the purse" issues cannot be handled with executive orders, only with real legislation. Remember when the GOP voted no on McCain's immigration bill? So if you want updated immigration legislation, you have to actually vote for it. Or we can keep on complaining about why the immigration legislation from the 1980s doesn't work.

  3. No, you are sadly misinformed. Speeding up asylum hearings means many people will be denied more quickly. Currently, people are assigned hearing dates years into the future due to backlogs and insufficient hearing officers. If there were more hearing officers, asylum seekers could be seen in a few months. The relatively few who meet the asylum guidelines could be identified, but the vast majority could be returned to their home nations. That in turn would decrease the number of people willing to give coyotes thousands of dollars for only a few months of asylum. Speedy efficient asylum would shift the entire landscape.

  7. I have no reason right now to believe that your version of the content of the bill is accurate. Sen Murphy (D) gave up a lot for that bill, especially provisions for Dreamers. In addition, if the GOP objections focused on immigration judges versus hearing officers, that could have been addressed by adding amendments and changes to the bill before the final vote. That's how the process works. Instead, the entire bill was stopped. Democrats were highly motivated to accept a conservative immigration bill, because it was part of getting military materials for Ukraine moving again. As a result of the bad faith on that immigration bill, more than six months were wasted and many Ukrainian lives were lost. I don't have time to get into this now, I will see if I have more time later. Please check your information with reliable news sources.
