@Straswa VT-8 was using the Mark 13 - which had its own set of problems, not related to the Mark 14's. And IIRC, the destroyer launched Mark 15 shared many problems with Mark 14

@Idahoguy10157 You need to go down to Naval Ammunition Depot Earle - they probably have some in a dusty corner of an old warehouse

The first Destroyer Escort after WW2 was the USS Dealey. In something of bad memory, President Kennedy was shot in Dealey Plaza

Armored conning towers - almost assuredly due the USS Growler and Howard W Gilmore https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Howard_W._Gilmore

TORPEX (TORpedo EXplosive) - developed by the British - is 42 percent RDX (Research Departmene eXplosive), 40 percent TNT and 18 percent powdered Aluminum - giving it an explosive power 50 percent greater than pure TNT. That meant a 643 pound Mark 14 warhead, equaled almost a thousand pounds of TNT. By the time TORPEX was adopted, the Mark 14's problems were well onto being solved. In it's native Britain, TORPEX filled the 805 pound warhead of the Mark VIII** - the weapon that was used to sink ARA Belgrano FORTY years later! The yield of the equivalent of 1200 pounds of TNT put it in the same league as the vaunted Type 93 "Long Lance" with 1080 pounds of TNT.
