Historical Wisdom: There was a group of Jews known as Verband nationaldeutscher Juden who supported a certain guy's power grab in 1930s Germany because they believed he was just saying stuff about eliminating Jews to infuriate the opposition. Turns out he wasn't, and they found themselves in internment camps when they no longer were of use to his party as a shield from criticism.
