The problem is not the law. The problem is NONE of us Filipinos trust the police or the politicians. They're some of the most corrupt and most incompetent in the world.

As a rule in the Philippines, people who are more exposed to the western world tend to be more liberal. People who have stayed all their lives in the Philippines, tend to be more conservative. Though the definitions of "conservative" and "liberal" are not the same as their definitions in most western countries (it has little to do with religion, for example). It has more to do with resistance to or acceptance of changes and if they focus more on rule of law/tradition or individual rights. The terms we use more frequently are "administration" (those favoring or allied to the president and ruling party) and "opposition" (those mostly opposing the president and ruling party), since the Philippines is not a two-party state like the US.

@elainereyes7722 You are a pro-Duterte supporter are you not? So you assumed I was anti-Duterte because I am opposing this law on the grounds that I do not trust our cops. Let me quote you: "The problem is opposition will always opose no matter what" Implying that I am opposing the law simply because I was a member of the opposition. I am neither pro- nor anti-Duterte. I support some of his laws. I oppose others. Call me what I actually am: a responsible citizen. Not a "follower" who thinks certain politicians are right, no matter what they actually do in their terms. And in case you were wondering, I voted for the late Miriam Santiago last election. Of course it's not my job to fix corruption. LOL. I'm not Batman. Neither is it yours, unless we both decide to run for office. It's the government's job to fix corruption. It's literally why we pay their salaries. And you don't even need me for recommendations, multiple other countries already have models we can use to lower corruption, from lifestyle checks to bodycams to simply better training and entrance requirements. But heck, even in cadets in school, people still die regularly from hazing which is ironically against the law. The only thing we citizens can do is vote. And even that is fallible because most people vote based on allegiances, not on platforms or even competence, which is how we end up with absolutely useless people like Bato in the Senate. I'm not even sure what your point is. Are you saying it's our fault that the government is corrupt? Are you saying the government is not corrupt? Or are you saying we should ignore the corruption because we can't fix it and just hope the police and military won't abuse it? Because again, even within the last few months, cops have repeatedly demonstrated how inept they can be. From the rapist cops in Ilocos who killed the 15-year old victim; to the cops in Sulu who ambushed soldiers; to the cops who were smuggling a truckload of beer into ECQ areas and then got into a gunfight with other cops; to the cops who tried to fine a maid for watering plants literally just outside the house without a mask, and so on. Absolute incompetence everywhere I look. And we're supposed to just believe they won't abuse their newfound powers to imprison anyone without trial.

Or they can both say "no" and you still would not know if they are trustworthy or not. It's called the "liar paradox." If that's how you gauge trust, you're a massive idiot. Are you saying our cops and politicians are not corrupt? Then tell me why you believe that. Not ask dumbass questions with no logical answers.

@elainereyes7722 How about fix the corruption problem first before giving corrupt people MORE power? The epals, the kotong cops, the red tape government workers, the under-the-table construction deals by governors and mayors? If the PNP was less corrupt, we'd have far less problems in the first place. The fallacy of labeling everyone who disagrees with anything as "opposition" is idiotic. Maybe understand first WHY people like me disagree with measures like this before dismissing me as simply someone disagreeing for political reasons. I support a lot of measures of the government. I oppose a lot of them too. And it has nothing to do with whether I am opposition or administration. Those are idiotic labels. How about caring for the country first, before allegiances to whatever politician you are currently worshiping. There are very few politicians I currently admire in the Philippines. Almost all of them are TraPo. I don't judge competence based on who you are allied to.

Yep. Worse. They plant fake evidence on people they kill by mistake. There are no bodycams. And they work with each other to protect bad cops. There have been multiple incidents in the past where cops have turned out to be part of or protecting kidnapping gangs and drug dealers.

Kevin Troy Haha, not really. Just these last few months: • The Metro Manila police chief hosted a party with multiple people without face masks or social distancing for his birthday. With public drinking to boot in the height of the liquor ban. He's still the chief assigned to Manila today. • Cops shot and killed an ex-soldier with PTSD and then planted a gun on him. • Cops fined or threatened people who literally just take one step outside their houses. Especially foreigners. Including in private property, and families with masks out exercising. • Cops transporting alcohol during the liquor ban. Including one who actually got into a gunfight with checkpoint personnel • Cops involved in "sex-for-pass" scandal with sex workers. • Cops in Jolo shot and killed army personnel. • Cops in Ilocos killed a 15-year whom they had raped when she tried to file a case against them. • Cops in Malaybalay shared a Facebook post where they showed a photo of pro-ABS-CBN protesters and then captioned it with "You'll know they are for terrorism, if they take advantage of all issues as long as these are against the government.", pretty much proving that to some cops, "terrorism" means anything that is critical of the government.

Kevin Troy It's the same. The problem is that "opinion" literally says they believe protesters are terrorists. And that's exactly what you're arguing that they are not. They're proving that you are wrong in thinking they are intelligent enough to understand the difference between terrorism and government criticism. They are not. They WILL abuse the anti-terror law.
