Interesting theory although that would have to be some practically impossibly bad aiming, I think what's more likely is it tried to hit a merchant ship and missed.

@stevebean1234 just to preface this you think that the tides and current in San franscio travel at 26 knots.... in reality they get up to a max of 6 knots. Now back to the rest of your inane comment it doesn't have to be a lazer beam to hit something that huge and that doesn't move, the tides and currents in san franscio get to a mx of 6 knots and the thing about tides is they go both ways... and a novice submariner would know about them. The tides and current would have more effect on the stationary sub than a 52 knot torpedo. Please if you have no knowledge of the topic don't waste my time.
