It's pretty simple you'd have to stupid to believe no missiles where shot down, why in the world would they fire 120 missiles at once unless to over saturate the defense system reason very simple because they knew a good number would be shot down.

8:37 The strategy for the small Diameter Bomb (SDB), would only work against the original first gen S-300 missiles, however the only S-300 missiles available right now out range by almost double the SDB's capability.

The better example of a submarine would be the sinking of a South Korean corvette in 2010 (I think) by a north Korean submarine. Even though the south Koreans were performing anti submarine exercises at the time they never spotted it and it was able to sink an entire corvette and slip away without any detection or action against it.

Something interesting to look at with Harm's was it's performance in the Yugoslavian wars the US fired over 500 harm's they thought they'd destroyed all armoured vehicles in the region and taken out vast amounts of the air defence systems, when actually it seems possibly 14 targets where taken out of commission of which none where independently taken out. (This is from memory but bascially the numbers are around that)

Also SAM sites use physcial spotters as well to track what is around to check ligitmate targets and well trained SAM sites will often turn on there radar systems for 30 seconds get a lock fire or not and turn off and move all the equipment as soon as they know they have either fired or been spotted.

@constantine7382 erm your common sense is just that common it isn't well thought out, your major problem is a very simple reason the targets where different it means the air defense where different you also answered your own question. Why no air defense systems shot at in first attack, you can even look at reports the Syria's never shot at them because they knew where they were going to land so that would mean that the area could be cleared unlike debris from shot down missiles causing injuries. Also the Russians where in the area so the majority of air defence in the area where probably russian so wouldn't fire on them to not start ww3. Also your quote at the end Russia never said that about destroying every one or launch area.

Your bit at the end is actually a myth the UK airforce was actually nowhere near losing they in fact had more fighters at the end of the battle of Britain than at the start, also operation sea lion the planned invasion of Britain would have never worked, air superiority or not. Due to the enormous size of the royal navy. Knocking out the radar was already planned for by the British bascially build more, hide planes, fake airstrips, and rely on the many other forms of detection they still possessed.

@_.-._.-._.-._.- I said around 500 not 5000 it's in the original comment around 500. A quarter? Where in the world did you get that stat from?

@moon512ify not just that the S-300 well out ranges SDB, meaning aircraft would have to get into the range of an S-300 missle before they could release. Using SDB is an old tactic that could gave only possibly work against the oldest S-300.
