Sure we travel. On holidays like Thanksgiving or Christmas, we may drive hundreds or thousands of miles so that the entire extended family can get together at Grandma's house.
The United States is a very mobile country as we follow our jobs or careers, we move all over our country and the average home resale time is about 4 years.
I personally have lived in Indianapolis, Logansport, Greenwood, Indiana;
Houston, Texas, Presidio, Texas; Phoenix, Arizona;
San Diego, California;
West Helena, Arkansas.
Then most jobs offer 2 weeks of paid vacation and people travel across several states on vacation (depending).
And we can visit a family member or a state park closer to us on the weekend.
I will give you the names of some parks and you can look them up on the internet:
Big Bend National Park.
Yellowstone National Park
Grand Canyon National Park
Niagra Falls
Redwood National Park
Here are some state parks as they would be closer to our home:
Spring Mill State Park
Turkey Run State Park
McCormick's Creek State Park
Brown County State Park
Clifty Falls State Park
Dunes State Park
Here are some state forests:
Yellowood State Forest
Martin County State Forest
Spencer County State Forest
Pike State Forest
Of course having said all of this, when you have a city of over a million people, you cannot expect them all to behave the same way. And I am sure they are some people who never leave one city there entire lives. But that is not my culture.
