No. At best, your memory is way off. xBase (dBase, FoxBase, etc.) systems did not have a "SQL database at their core." Opposite. dBase first had its own (very different!) language, and then with dBase IV came support for a lame SQL implementation and another "language" called QBE (Query by Example), and other stuff. I'm guessing you're an ex-Delphi or VB programmer who worked with dBase IV, probably via ODBC drivers, which gave you a SQL interface to xBase implementations (with varying degrees of reliability). Nah, man. I mean, sure man.
