  1. I thought the Taliban were not a homogeneous group, different factions exist (call them 'warlords' if you like). Its possible the one that Mr. Zeihan speaks of is not affiliated with those in Afghanistan; maybe they have connections, but they are separate entities with their own 'turf.'

  2.  @Indrid__Cold  I was aware the USA ban or reprocessing nuclear waste was a knee-jerk reaction to the Three Mile Island plant's problems back in 1979. Reprocessing technology has come a long way since then. France, the UK, Japan, Russia, and probably more have been doing it for years.

  3. I thought they were putting a priority on building nuclear power plants to satisfy their growing electricity demand, did that get program get pushed aside for other, newer priorities?
