  1. Actually still 'light' at around midnight until 'dawn' as the sun only dips below the horizon. They don't need to turn the streetlights on in summer. Been there, seen that. Similar in Anchorage. But bloody long winter nights, the complete opposite of summer.

The eco-friendly government started shutting down all the 'evil' nuclear plants except one (Diablo Canyon) and also kept a few seaside natural gas plants operating (using seawater for cooling, sucking in a few fish as it operates). Without those the state would risk rolling brownouts during the heavy electricity use in the summertime.
