  1.  @pjpredhomme7699  I'll agree with that as I've got a masters degree in Chemistry; just a bachelors degree would have been enough. I did get an electrical contractors license but it was while working for a neighbor during school breaks and weekends in college to gain skills, no IBEW-type apprentice program. I worked full time in the chemistry world since the pay and benefits was more predictable then did electrical work for folks at odd times (weekends and such) and it made for a good side income.

  2. All the kids these days want to be YouTube or Tik-Tok stars (or is it influencers?).😉 Maybe Trump's/Biden's banishing of Tik- Tok might help out with skills development. Beyond that kids don't get a lot of exposure to 'trades' these days, no hands-on work as that's been eliminated from school curriculums in my area in favor of digital training and a focus on college. Another path might be the outward migration of manufacturing from China to other countries, somewhat diversifying the industrial/manufacturing industry so no one country can have as much control as China does today. That will still require the USA to have some domestic 'industrial plant' for specialty stuff (electricity generation as mentioned), but not a full-scale build-out where we try to produce everything we need. With Trump's somewhat isolationist rhetoric that might not be possible.
