  1. High-speed rail was built to raise property values. I wonder how much of that property was bought or leased ahead of time by high Party officials and then sold at a huge profit? Perhaps that's the real reason for a lot of it.

  3. I play it at 1.5x to shorten the time. It works well unless they are given off a long string of statistics. I believe videos must be a certain length of time to trigger something in the YouTube algorithm for it to promote it in the recommended column. A lot of aggravating things about YouTube are not the fault of the creators but YouTube's insane policies.

  5. The question is not are they convenient for passengers and certainly have a "cool" factor, the question is are they economically sustainable? It would be very convenient to have a station 10 feet from my house but would enough of my neighbors ride the train with me to ever pay for its construction? If they don't generate enough revenue to even pay for the loans for construction how will they also pay for ongoing maintenance? You don't just build a rail line and now you're all set. It requires constant maintenance and upkeep or the trains and stations get shabby and run down and the number of rail accidents climb from unmaintained tracks and trains.

  6.  @pablosskates7067  The analogy I think of is imagine a national government announcing that they will give every citizen a free new pair of shoes...but they will all be size 10. Some people wear a 10 so they will be perfectly happy. Some people wear a 9 or a 11 so they may be able to wear them. But everyone else will get a useless pair of shoes. It sounds great on paper--free shoes!--but is terribly wasteful in practice. That describes Communism in general: it sounds great on paper but it's a disaster in real life.
