@jontwest The problem isn't with people from different cultures who choose to have children -- they should be commended. It's the judgmental and rigid societies that should be criticized if they are not open to change.

@jontwest I should have been more specific in my response; when I said "cultures," that was inclusive of the term "ethnicity" as well. I can understand if you were replying to my comment based on the assumption that I wasn't, though. As far as your second paragraph goes: it is a sad reality that many societies are unaccepting of people who are seemingly different from them, and a big example of this is phenotype. I can say that it is painful when you're othered for being different due to this, but at the same time, the only way for society to change is to see the vast amount of differences inherent to the human species and become more broad-minded. This won't happen overnight, and parents should be very careful when it comes to raising their children, but the onus is on society at large to change. Not the other way around.

@jontwest Why do you believe that society doesn't have a responsibility to the people who live in it? I agree that people are often tribal, and it is a very painful experience to not superficially fit in to the places you are born and raised in. But there are positive things too: an increased sense of awareness, consideration, and empathy. There is beauty in the diversity of phenotypes and experiences innate to human beings, and focusing on the painful parts leads to losing sight of the good things, in my opinion. The same goes for many other qualities and traits that were considered abnormal in the past -- as we evolve, our understanding of them is changing.
