umm...they're a bit late worrying about whether tthe UN is any good at conflicts. Romeo Delaire, the general who led the UN contingent in Bosnia, ended up with PTSD, he said, because Bosnian women were being raped to death right outside the UN compound. A similar thing happened in Rwanda.....the UN couldn't save anyone because France kept veto iing action against the Hutus who were murdering all the Tutsi's they could get their hands on. Bosnia was a little different....in theory the UN troops could have saved far more Bosnians, but they needed permission from the head office in New York. Because of the time difference the head office was never open when UN troops phoned.....they only worked til 5, NY time. Their record is...umm.....quite limited when it comes to actually helping ppl when peacekeeping.

so the B C port strike has cost WAY more than the trucker's protest cost. When's Trudeau going to declare the Emergency Act vs the port workers??

@darlene2709 it depends on who you are. Natives a few yrs ago blocked the main rail line for CN/CP in the West and caused billions of dollars in losses to business. The police and the govt. did nothing. The port workers have stopped ships from being unloaded for weeks now....and nothing has been done about them either. The truckers blocked a bridge at Windsor for a few hrs and parked on several streets in downtown Ottawa...and had their trucks damaged by the police, the Emergency Act declared on them, their bank accounts frozen ....plus the accounts of anyone who donated to them....including single moms who gave as little as $25....so they couldn't pay rent or buy food....and had their pets seized and killed. The CPS was called in to take their children as well.....all credit to CPS...they said they'd rarely seen such well looked after kids and refused to take them from their families. THAT's how Canada rolls now.

Grocery stores make a profit of about 1%. If they're in a high theft area, they lose money.....and eventually the store closes. That's why there are food deserts in some cities. Just saying....

it's actually about automation. They just left that out of the story. The port workers want less automation, they want their $162,000 a year for themslves. Then the next story is about how Metro workers can't afford groceries....because the cost is so high due to shipping. What goes around, etc.
