Later the crusaders along with their jhardist allies destroyed Constantinople and broke up the Byzantine empire. We are seeing the exact playbook being played in Syria. Orthodox Christianity has always been under attack by the West. It took them 800 years to destroy it in Syria. However, Orthodox Christianity will re- emerge in another time once again in Syria.
