  1. The thought was that there would be 6x or more less men on the field of battle. 1 or 2 men working the gun instead of 100 men firing muzzle loaders and rifles. Of course, it was a flawed thought, but at the time the theoretical math was sound. The problem was everyone didn't have one. It was always one sided and with devastating effects. As for barrel replacement, they are a bit vague. It would depend on the specific model and application and ambient temps and how many rounds sent down range. Some models/applications shoot 4000 r/min while others shoot 6600 r/min, varying numbers in between.
