@anothercynicalbrit6451 There is no majority for a hard Brexit in the country or in parliament. You're deluded.

She wants to stop a hard Brexit. Corbyn doesn't. That's it. Corbyn should put the country first. He won't.

She's right. The Tories won't support Corbyn. The answer is an emergency government led by Harman and Clarke. It's the only way. Labour should put the country first.

No.

Tony Lloyd is completely unconvincing. Swinson's putting forward a serious plan to stop a hard Brexit. The Tories won't support Corbyn, end of. The answer is an emergency government led by people like Harman and Clarke. It's the only way. Labour should put the country first. The priority should be stopping a hard Brext, not the bedroom tax or banging on about "Blairites".

@higgsboson2280 Don't agree. No deal could swell support for the Liberal Democrats as people will realise they were right. Corbyn can't lead a anti-no-deal government because he can't get enough support from outside the Labour party - frankly, he hasn't go so much support inside the parliamentrary Labour Party He can hardly whip people given his long record of voting against the whip!!). If Corbyn is realistic and really wants to stop a hard Brexit he has to accept that an emergency government is led by someone other than him - hence the suggestion of Harriet Harman and Ken Clarke. History won't judge him well if he messes this up.
1
@higgsboson2280 It's not just Swinson, it's the SNP, Tories, Plaid Cymru ... they want an emergency government to stop a hard Brexit. And they're saying it can't be led by Corbyn because he wouldn't be acceptable to enough MPs. Corbyn has to put the country before what he thinks are his own interests.
1
@higgsboson2280 Corbyn frequently broke the whip. Most Labout MPs didn't want his as leader. The other parties don't want him as prime minister. If Labout want to stop a hard Brexit they need to face facts.
1
@higgsboson2280 The Lib Dems just won a by-election and ride high in the polls. Corbyn has shockingly low approval ratings. The public haev as much confidence in him as the MPs (Labour and others).
1
@higgsboson2280 People like you confirm why Corbyn isn't fit to be prime minister.
1
@mrdemocracy7106 Parliament was elected after the referendum.
1
@mrdemocracy7106 Childish arguments are so much more convincing than facts and logic. You should be very proud.
1
@Sam Advocan The Lib Dems just took a Tory seat in Wales and are riding high in the polls. The proposal is for a number of parties to join together to form a government of national unity that stops a no-deal Brexit.

@stephensodyssey7423 The EU alreday negotiated an agreement with the Uk that reduces the economic damage of Brexit. Threatening to hurt everyone isn't a negotiating position, it's a childish tantrum. The british empire has gone and you need to get used to it.
1
@stephensodyssey7423 Nothing "clean" about a clueluess crash-out Brexit, and no-one has voted for it. Spare us the propaganda about "vassal states" given Johnson and Farage's toadying to Trump and the plans to sell off the NHS to the US health corporations.
1
@stephensodyssey7423 Trump said the NHS was "on the table" for trade talks with a post-Brexit Britain (I heard him say it, so don't lie). Thankfully, the US Congress won't back any trade deal that doesn't respect the Good Fridat Agreement with Ireland.
1
@stephensodyssey7423 Rubbish. The backstop is an insurance policy to protect the Good Friday Agreement until a lasting agreement can be reached. The EU27 proposed a backstop covering Northern Ireland the British insisted it should cover the whole of the UK. You are in total denial. No wonder the world is struggling to understand what the UK is coming to .....
1
@stephensodyssey7423 Support for the EU has gone up - as it has in all 27 countries - since Brexit. The GFA requires regulatory alignment between the six counties and the 26 counties. Ireland is no longer a vassal state of the English, it has developed more and more global links and will continue to do so, including with the rest of the EU. The sun has sunk on the British Empire.
1
@stephensodyssey7423 Support fot eh EU has gone up in all 27 countries. Even the popuist right has dropped their calls for referendums on leaving and now talk of reform. Your are deluded, still living in a world on which the sun set long ago ..
1
@stephensodyssey7423 A few hundred people burning tyres changes nothing. Macron is the elected president of France and won't be overthrown by these protestors. You need to stop watching Alex Jones or wherever you get these notions from. As for cultural identities, the European Union has done many things to promote and encourage its many, many languages: you can't even use apostrophes in what I fear is your only language.
1
@stephensodyssey7423 I have no fixed ideas - other than that the sun has set on your empire. People who use the phrase "mainstream media" are invariably fixed-ideas social-media adicts.
1
@stephensodyssey7423 The USSR was a Communist dictatorship. All 27 governments in the EU are elected [none as far as I know has a prime minister elected just by party members, as in the UK]. The EU negotiating position for talks with the UK was agreed by all these elected governments and the EU has consistently stuck to it. Policy in the EU is made by the Council of Ministers, on which each country has a representative. The EU has roughly the same number of civil servants as Derbyshire County Council. So no, you're wrong. Comparing the EU to the USSR is either staggeringly ignorant or rather sinister.
1
@stephensodyssey7423 Germany and the US both have federal structures. The EU's governing body is the council of ministers. Civil servants in the UK aren't elected either. Do the Scots who complain about unelected civil servants making decisions in London conclude that's Communism?
1
@stephensodyssey7423 The German presenit is not directly elected by the people. Neither in fact is the US presdient (hence Clinton won 3 million votes more than Trump). The Commission President is a civil servant. The policy-making body in the EU is the Council of Ministers, on which all the elected government have a seat. You will have noticed that civil servants in the UK, or on Derbyshire County Council are not elected? Do you want every town clerk, or teacher, or policeman elected? Deep state! Ha, ha.
1
@stephensodyssey7423 The head of the British civil service isn't elected either - so you need now to campaign to withdraw from the UK because it's same as the USSR. Off you go .....
1
@stephensodyssey7423 Watch out for next year's Republican Convention when Trump will probably be the only choice.
1
@stephensodyssey7423 What do you propose? Sacking any nurse, policeman, administrator who won't take an oath of loyalty to hard Brexit?
1
@stephensodyssey7423 Can I suggest you read Robert Conquest’s The Great Terror and then think about whether the EU is comparable to the Soviet Union. You might also have a think about Germany and the EU’s role in incorporating East Germany and the former Soviet-dominated countries.
1
@stephensodyssey7423 I agree. We need to go back to the days of black-and-white telly, TB, Winston Churchill and village bobbies. The EU has given us bent bananas and johnny foreigners taking our jobs and women. In the old days we had food a plenty and unlimited women.

A government led by Ken Clarke and Harriet Harman makes sense. Corbyn should put the country first. Of course he won't, his shady advisers won't let him.
