  1. As an engineer myself, I'd like to point out that if we're given a target for something, we'll get there. Want cleaner & more efficient jet engines? give a team of engineers the task and the resources and they will achieve it. Early turbo jet engines were too thirsty, too noisy & too unreliable. Engineers were told to fix it and the turbofan jet engine was created.

  2. I guess someone in his position would be too much of a terrorist target on a train and doesn't have time to spend 8 hours plus in a car so the plane seems to be the only option really. Just because he has to use something doesn't mean he can't say that thing should be improved.

  3. People are taking this the wrong way. There's more than one way to cut aviation emissions and the best one is to increase the efficiency of the engines. Britain has some of the best engineers in the world along with one of the greatest jet engine manufacturers, Rolls Royce. Invest in R&D, get the best engineers on the case, give them the resources they need and the problem will be solved. This can be applied to ALL problems like this. As an engineer myself, I'm loving the challenges we're getting now. Most of what I do I refining mechanisms that have existed for decades, searching for wasted energy and looking for energy recovery oppertunities. In most cases it results in products which are quieter, smoother running and more reliable due to reduced heat, vibration and friction.
