That's not true. Diesel generators are a little more efficient than direct diesel power. The generator is set to run constantly in the most efficient part of it's rev range where a petrol or diesel engine is constantly accelerating or decelerating. I love my big V8 (Jag XKR 5.0) but as an engineer, I'd rather be honest about it. If I did the miles, I would change my little Skoda hatchback for electric (I did 4000 last year, it's not worth the investment) but for a weekend toy, even if electric cars are quicker, nothing beats a howling V8 accompanied by a screaming supercharger for a bit of drama and excitement to get the adrenaline flowing.

They did look in to making a hatchback to rival the BMW 1 series when I worked there but couldn't make it competative on cost. They will be making an all electric version of the XE & E Pace so they will be around £30,000 - £35,000 for a base model. JLR are a really small manufacturer. Their entire years output is less than the number of C200 diesels that Mercedes build. All their cars are hand built. Developing a cheap car and building a fully automated production line would run in to billions of pounds. Then there's the fact that British people think German cars are more reliable (reliability surveys disagree, Range Rover excepted) so most of JLR's vehicles are exported. British people won't buy them. I own a Jaguar XFR, a car which every magazine review rated as better than the BMW M5 on it's launch yet the Jaguar sold 200 a year in Britain while the BMW sold 600 a year.

@Reactivate100 Most modern diesels cant run on home brew bio diesel. It melts seals and the fuel quality sensors will just go nuts. It would probably just work out more inconvenient than using electric
