Why? Students families can only get a visa. They can't claim permanent residency, they can't claim any benefits or support, they don't cost us anything so what's the issue? It's foreign students who keep our universities open, they pay far more than British students. Once our universities are gone, where do we train the next generation of engineers, architects, scientists, lawyers etc, etc? Britain was built by great engineers and those who design and create tech & structures can only get their knowledge of science and maths at university.

@abim3365 No, the money goes to keeping our universities open and keeping fees down for British students and funding research and facilities

It's overseas students who keep British universities open. They pay far more than British students. Putting them off coming here to study means we will lose universities and then we will have nowhere for our future engineers, scientists, teachers, etc, etc to study and Britain will fall even further behind the rest of the world. Family members can only come here on a visa, they aren't entitled to permanent residency, they can't claim any sort of support at all so I don't see the problem.

In every single EU country, students can get get visas for immediate family. Same in the US where I did my masters

British students pay £9,000 per year. Non British students pay £22,000 - £38,000 per year and they cannot get student finance, it has to be paid in advance. Their immediate family can come on a visa which does not entitle them to full residency and they cannot claim any benefits and only have very limited working rights and have to pay £500 per year to entitle them to use the NHS.
