In fact I recently read a book detailing the real history of Ireland, specifically from 1649-1840: first 10 years alone a quarter of a million Irish men, women and children were sold to slave ships bound for the Caribbean. During the "potato famine", which was actually a holodomor, an attempt was made to wipe out the entire nation by starving them to death. I believe over 5 million were wiped out. When the Ottoman empire tried to get shipments of food through to the Irish, the British Navy blockaded them and prevented them from landing. Those are just two examples of what happened during the Penal Times - and yet most Irish people don't even know about this, while everyone knows about the holocaust.
