  1. True. In fact during WW2 the British promised the Irish government that if they dropped their neutrality and helped they would be given Northern Ireland back. Of course the Irish government, to their great credit, didn't believe them and told them to get lost: they knew that Irish soldiers would have been just used as cannon fodder, anyway.

  3. As for the findings of the Durham report: it would possibly be better to file lawsuits against the individuals who made the accusations rather than the institutions they can hide behind. If they are sued as individuals they won't be able to get the fbi or any other organisation to pay their legal fees and defence with tax payer's money.
