  2. The country was disarmed with the promise that the police would protect people. They utterly failed in that which can be expected but for reasons best known to themselves they went on to criminalise anyone who defended themselves. Interestingly the entire Victorian public was absolutely against the creation of an organised police force as they were concerned it would become an unaccountable bullyboy force with no interest in protecting the public or fighting crime. They were a smart lot the Victorians.

Believe it or not when Robert Peel announced his intention to set up an organised police force in 1829, the Victorian public resisted it tooth and nail because they believed it would lead to an unaccountable bully-boy force that wouldn't even deal with crime. They turned out to be absolutely right.

  6. PR stunt. 400 of them returned from Syria right under their noses while they were busy putting the rest of us through body scanners. They know how many are here: this is nothing but a PR stunt.
