True. But that murderer knew what he was doing. About a year ago I was in a chip shop when an old squaddie heard my accent and he looked at me with a real sense of pride on his face and said "I shot 3 Irish men when I was in Nothern Ireland". He was delighted with himself. An English friend of mine some years back had to listen to his boss (who served in the North, too) smirking about the things he'd done over there. True, the brass hats who started all this were psychopaths, but that murdered pulle d the trigger and knew he's get away with it, too, as he did for a long time and as most of them still do.

I'm amazed there was even a conviction given the amount of soldiers who murdered civilians over there and who were then completely protected by the state.

Maryanne Kenny Would have been kind of hard to have "left them to it" when it was all initiated, escalated and maintained by the British: without the "contribution" of the brits there never would have been any trouble up there. I would have thought their interventions all over the world would illustrate that, but no, apparently not.

@anniegrath1417 Exactly right.

Believe me there are plenty of ex-squaddie murderers who served in Northern Ireland walking who were very well protected: this guy must have been so blatant about the murder that there was no way even the blood soaked British state could protect him.
