I was chatting to a woman from Mannheim, S. Germany (I'm in the UK) and she was saying that towns and villages over there are organising every Monday to protest the current government. She also said that people are even being arrested in the country for criticising the government: It's not being reported by the media over there and she asked me to pass it on to people outside Germany.

@Aquaphobic-Fish Absolutely: I was aware of Alina Lipp and I remember her interview on The Grayzone about her account being frozen: the German lady I was speaking told me that Lipp's father's bank account has also been frozen by the government.

@brewsterly2927 I lived in Germany many years ago, in fact shortly after the wall came down: I remember what it felt like thinking the world had shed totalitarianism once and for all - even seeing the country re-united and meeting people who were free for the first time in their lives - I didn't think back then that we'd see days like this again, either. Hopefully the tide will turn: it seems to be in Sweden, Italy and America.

@1a2b3c4d5 I do remember when I was living there at the time (in the aftermath of the wall coming down) that there was a big difference between the East and West Germans, it was almost as if they were from a completely different country and culture - which, I guess in a way, they were. In fact I think Ronald Reagan at the time was very concerned that something like this could eventually happen - and as you rightly pointed out - Angela Merkel happened.
