  1. Winston Churchill requested that US forces occupy Iceland. In the two-part referendum, voters were asked whether the Union with Denmark  should be abolished, and whether to adopt a new republican constitution. Both measures were approved in 1944. 👍

  2. ​ @stephenchappell7512 Maybe if you're a Danish monarchist. For the rest of us, republicanism is a blessing. Churchill could have bullied Iceland into submission.
