@stevewatson6839 Russia is about 45 times bigger than Japan. If I was Stalin, I would have packed my suitcase and declared Moscow an open city.

@typo pit They were still quite racist. Most prisoners were released in 1948, went to work and acquired weapons, so it was too late to do much. Laws banning "race-mixing" were enforced in certain U.S. states until 1967.

@stevewatson6839 You know the Winter war lasted three and a half months, not twenty years. We never leave a soldier behind. Besides, the population of Finland grew faster than today. When subtract those who were KIA, we still got 175K additional people. Reds handed over Ivalo, Kuusamo and Porkkala without a fight. They are not looking for farmland, they need money.

@dondajulah4168 Amen. Adolf Heusinger was for all intents and purposes a clone of Hitler. He was literally standing next to Hitler when the bomb exploded.

@nicholasconder4703 It's worth remembering that the Jews fought alongside Germany in WW1.

True, but I'm not sure Britain won anything. Two million houses damaged or destroyed. Although some luck was involved, the Jewish losses in Denmark during WW2 were similar than in the US mainland. Surely, a neutral country could repeat that. Had Chamberlain sold arms to Germany, they could have prospered instead of paying interest.

Crazy that Rochus Misch (telephone operator) saw everything live and watched the film Downfall. He probably didn’t need other hallucinogens.

Maurice Gamelin is remembered for his disastrous command of the French military in WW2, but he actually graduated before WW1 in 1893. Finnish general Aksel Airo graduated from École Supérieure de Guerre in 1923. Post WW1 training in France was the best in the world.

The Czechs were subjugated by the Allies, so what’s the problem. Last time I visited Prague, a man was selling cocaine next to a police car. I'm completely happy with my life away from "civilization"

Might work posing as Edvard VIII, if you shoot Neville Chamberlain, Winston Churchill, Clement Attlee and George VI. Nepalese royal massacre led to the abolishment of monarchy and put an end to the civil war that lasted for almost a decade.

@stevewatson6839 Sure, but I know that story too well. Mannerheim achieved his goals in 1941 and held on until the summer of 1944. During the trench warfare period of the war, long-range patrols were often conducted behind enemy lines. I think it would be interesting to study less known Russian or Finnish extremists, such as Johan Christian Fabritius, Paavo Susitaival, Christian Frederik von Schalburg, or even Felix Steiner himself (Hitler's generals).

Amen. Chamberlain has become a mythical figure. A defender only needs third of the troops of what an attacker needs to keep the area safe. France alone could have stopped Germany

@peterbennet7145 Paris was declared an open city by the French Government. They didn't even fight for it, because the alternative would have been going back to the stone age. Not that I blame them for collaborating, but they thought like any empire and not like "the way of the warrior". As I recall, Stalin has also mentioned this, although they deny everything in retrospect if the statement is not recorded.

I would not have even participated in the negotiations. They are quite mixed in Central Europe. Vienna to Bratislava train journey takes as little as 59 minutes to arrive in Bratislava.

In many places, it is dangerous to talk about modern history, so this will continue forever, but maybe we’ll get to the 1960s in twenty years.

As of 2020, the British Army comprises 80,000 regular full-time personnel. For comparison, the Swiss Armed Forces consist of 120,500 people on active duty. One could even say Neville Chamberlain is the founding father of Great Britain.

Churchill, Eden, FDR, Truman, LBJ, JFK, Stalin, Khrushchev and many others died before Karl Dönitz. God works in mysterious ways. I don't know if Karl sent condolences.

@alfredcollins3944 Meaning it was a good thing? Well, Britain was not yet a complete democracy.
