German cars (except Porsche) are exciting to drive but After 5 years old and/or 50k + miles they will bankrupt you. My 2002 Lexus ES300 maybe “boring” to most people but at 176k miles it’s as reliable as anything on the road today. I replaced all 20 year old OEM parts (starter, alternator and struts) and now it rides like new. It will last me another 176k miles with proper maintenance !!

The 4th Gen Lexus ES’s (2002-2006) are bulletproof if properly maintained! As I’ve commented on this channel a few times, My 2002 Lexus ES300 maybe “boring” to most people but at 176k miles it’s as reliable anything on the road today. I replaced 20 year old OEM parts (starter, alternator and struts) and now it rides like new. It will last me another 176k miles with proper maintenance !!

Absolutely. I do my own synthetic oil changes every 5k miles on my 2002 ES300 with high mileage Pennzoil full synthetic. Doesn’t burn one drop in 5k miles. Before I changed to the high mileage, I used to burn about a quart between oil changes.

@jakesmith-ho4bl mine is a ES300. I got lucky and found a one owner with all maintenance records on Lexus owners website. All service was done at a local Lexus dealership thru 110k miles. Timing belt and valve cover gasket were replaced at 88k miles. Bought it 2 years ago w 160k miles. They are bulletproof. I think valve cover gasket issues are the only thing I’m aware of. Thank god mine was replaced and I’ll be doing it again when I do the timing belt again soon. Major difference between the Camrys and ES’s are the sound insulation and quality of materials. My Lexus is super quiet. California walnut trim interior trim and beautiful leather makes it that more special. If you’re looking for just a commuter, go with the Camry, but if you want something, elegant and luxurious quiet, go with the Lexus.

@jakesmith-ho4bl If you can find one in good condition with low mileage go for it. Definitely a one owner with good maintenance records is a plus. What convinced me mostly is there’s one on YouTube (3 years ago) with 596,000 highway mileage with original engine and transmission

@jakesmith-ho4bl yes !! And that was posted about three years ago. It’s probably got 650,000 miles by now
