@Advanced Driving Nowhere did I see in the comments from either of those two people you have just criticised any attempt to justify or excuse for what these pilots did. But they both said the pilots didn't deserve to die; which is not the same as saying the pilots don't deserve to be punished. There's a difference ... and written comprehension is a thing.

@thomasdillon7761 And that's why they cannot let just anyone maintain aircraft. Organisations have tried that before - having a few highly skilled people supervising lots of people brought in from other industries (e.g. auto mechanics), and found the quality dropped while the safety risks rose. The comments from certain people in this thread attest to that fact - you cannot have rule-breakers maintaining aircraft if you don't want it to fall out of the sky.
