  1. There really isn't an American diet.. becauase each state is so different culturally wise. It honestly depends on your salary. if you are poor your subsidized foods are unhealthy.. if you are welathy and well off, you can afford healthy foods and etc. It's quite unfortunate. The US has a lot of problems.

  2. They use a lot of ghee/oil in their food so it's high in calories. It's easy to over eat your daily caloric requirements and gain weight.
