Those university grads that can only work as sales, coffee markers, and etc, then that is your life value, with or without degrees. They have been lied to by: family, friends, society, etc that education is a ticket to a good life. This was true 20+ yrs ago, but no more. Unversities are still making money. Imagine, a graduate earning 5000rmb a month, l dont know the tution cost, but im pretty sure it will take along time to earn the money back from their tuitions (paid by their parents, most likely). Many university papers are becoming obslete and useless, especially arts degree. Those with STEM degree have a higher chance. This is also true in the west. University is an experience, it is a luxury. The return is not longer worth it. Street smart is becoming more valuable than papers received from university.
We have all been lied to. Only a very few lucky ones can earn high salary. It also depends on luck, your personality, looks and street smart experience.

@martingrey2231 Yes, it is a chance to get a better job. But overal, the value of BA degrees are being devalued. For foreigners in CHina, we use the degree to apply for a work visa. But most jobs don't require it, as the knowledge and skills we learned 20+ yrs is out of date. Therefore, we strive to include to be life long learners, gaining experience as we go through life.
Many people nowadays can't use their degree to find job, other than STEM, where those grads have a higher chance as it is more of a depand. But many other degrees, are not useful, such as philosophy, history, art history, to name a few.
