  1. He does have a BS degrees in mechanical engineering and worked for Boeing for a while. I’m not a giant fan of Nye myself, even though I loved his show as a kid. I don’t necessarily know if he meets the criteria of “scientist”, but he’s certainly probably got a better understanding of science than the average person. Mechanical engineering is not a very easy degree to get, even at the undergrad level.
