It takes way more energy to find and cultivate a new relationship than to say “you’re not doing that.” You are literally advocating for not communicating what your boundaries are. I was dating a girl who had her ex-BF’s number in her phone and he was friends with her on Facebook and he would sometimes comment on her pictures. I told her to delete his number, delete him from social media, and cut off all contact. She complied with my requests that very same day. We have been married for 13 years now, together for 15, with three kids. I could have said “She is not worth the energy for me to use my words and tell her that is not acceptable.” But that would be idiotic. It takes zero energy to tell a woman what your boundaries are.
