  1. As long as the economy grows faster than the debt, we will theoretical remain healthy. We still haven't paid off the debt from WWII. Debt allows for faster growth, just like in business. Where we get into trouble is when the debt and interest payments grow faster than we can manage, leading to cuts in other areas just to make the payments.

  2. Deficits matter when Republicans are not in power. It only goes down when they are out of power. When Republicans ARE in power, suddenly massive deficits are no longer concerning and they go up.
