  9. He’s trying to send a message that the DOJ is not corrupt after he lowered Roger Stone’s sentence on Trump’s behalf. He doesn’t want want it looking like Trump is using the government to help his friends and punish his enemies.

  16. deth All good points. But then again we don’t actually know what McCabe was supposedly lying about, and we’re not lawyers. He actually sued the government for firing him, so he might not have done anything prosecutable.

  17. Bucketmouth Ah, but here’s the difference between Roger Stone and McCabe. They had TONS of evidence — witnesses and documents to use against Stone. That’s not true with McCabe. Sure, they had enough to fire him but not enough to prove to a jury beyond a reasonable doubt that he lied. Intent matters too. And McCabe’s lawyers were going to have a field day defending him in court because Trump has disparaged McCabe so much, it would look like a politically motivated prosecution. A jury would NEVER convict. In other words Trump ruined it because he can’t keep his mouth shut. Just like Barr said.

  18. deth It’s not about “negative press.” Politically motivated prosecutions are CORRUPT. That’s what they do in third-world countries. Trump doesn’t understand the concept of corruption, that’s why he keeps getting in trouble.
