@jeremiahjohnson4508 This bill calls for vastly MORE drilling. Are Republicans against it just because Democrats are for it?
11
@vangiaido1285 The difference is your claim that "many economists" believe this will increase inflation. It's true that some economists believed that last time. SOME, not many. But it is flatly untrue that "many" economists are saying that this time. We need to stick to the facts before having a debate.
5
Taxing actually does help correct inflation. Anything that pulls this excess money back out of the economy will help inflation to drop.
4
@b.d.walters9402 I'll prove it after you prove your accusation that the bill isn't paid for. As the accuser, the burden is on you to prove your false claim. That's how things work in America.
4
@nathaniellathy6559 No I have not been bamboozled. I realize this is primarily an energy and healthcare bill. Lowers costs in those sectors. Paid for by closing loopholes that allow mega corporations to dodge paying taxes. Also reduces the deficit (normally a huge priority for Republicans when they are not in power). It is FAIR, lowers the deficit, and it lowers costs for most Americans. Which is why most Americans believe it should pass. The only reason I can think of for you opposing it is because Democrats are the ones who proposed it.
3
No they don't. Because this bill actually lowers costs for consumers.
3
@gregparker1803 That's flatly not correct. Taxation DECEEASES inflation by decreasing consumer spending. What would increase inflation would be a tax cut... because people would have more money to spend. But this "tax" is not on people. It is literally closing a loophole on some billion dollar corporations that pay 0% tax. It's only 55 companies nationwide. Stop trying to make it out to be more than it is. Republicans cannot keep complaining about big corporations running America and then get mad at closing a tax loophole on corporations... just because Democrats proposed it. It's utterly ridiculous.
2
@gregparker1803 What recession? Hard to imagine we are already in a recession when there is RECORD LOW unemployment and companies continue to report record profits week after week. Somehow Republicans have been bamboozled into arguing that billion dollar companies that currently pay no taxes should continue to pay NO taxes.... meanwhile smaller companies pay a lot more.
2
@dr.burtgummerfan439 Luckily that has nothing to do with this.
2
In fact, it actually LOWERS the deficit. Thr bill brings in more money than it spends. To help lower the debt.
2
Spending has the power to increase inflation. Taxing has the power to lower inflation. Which is why the bill is expected to have a mostly neutral effect on inflation. But in exchange we get more drilling, tax credits help the eventual move to cleaner energy, and lower healthcare costs in the form of lower insurance premiums and drug prices. Paid for by a 15% minimum tax on the largest 55 companies that use accounting tricks to avoid paying ANY taxes at all. And by closing a loophole that allows hedge fund managers to pay a lower tax rate than everyone else. Doesn't seem so negative to me 🤷🏾♂️ Unless you can spot something everyone else missed.
1
@dr.burtgummerfan439 Yes we DO have the money to spend. For the 4th time. The bill pays for itself by closing tax loopholes. What about that is so hard to understand??? Seems like are purposely not understanding what it means to DECREASE the deficit. Thick skull.
1
@robinw.darnell4269 Awesome, you don't need to trust me! You have internet access and a brain. Go look up the ACTUAL bill instead of just making assumptions.
1
Why? What wrong with ending the practice where billion dollar companies pay NO taxes. Republicans try to say taxes are being raised to 15%. In fact, the corporate tax rate is already 21%. Manchin is calling for a 15% MINIMUM tax on companies that find a way to pay NOTHING. Republicans are being bamboozled into arguing that certain billion dollar companies should be able to continue paying NO taxes. Meanwhile every other company pays 21%. Lol
1
He didn't "flip" on the issue. It is only 1/7 the size of the original bill. It reduces the price of energy and healthcare, and lowers the deficit. And it is paid for by ending the practice of billion-dollar companies paying ZERO in taxes. That's literally it! Stop making a bigger deal out of it than it really is.

@detroit12870 Tell me which stuff in this bill is bad for America. It's major parts are: 1. Money for dirty energy 2. Money for clean energy 3. Lowering insurance costs 4. Lowering the costs of prescription drugs. Pays for it by closing tax loopholes. Please tell me what part of that is bad... other than the fact that it is a win for Democrats? And please stick to using facts, not assumptions.
1
@angelvalle9963 And so what if it is. Are you bragging about being anti-environment? They even threw in some drilling and dirty energy in there for you trolls who like to complain about everything.
1
@b.d.walters9402 No one said it was bipartisan. I said it includes a lot of stuff Republicans are always saying they want, like for fossil fuels and cheaper healthcare. And REDUCING the deficit, meaning it's completely paid for. But it also closes tax loopholes and invests in green technology... so therefore bad, bad, bad. I think there is a law somewhere that says Republicans cannot support anything that creates clean energy. No matter how good it is for human life. Lol
1
@vangiaido1285 No the Fed will NOT print more money from air. A major point of this legislation is that it will REDUCE the deficit by more than $350 billion. AKA less debt. Isn't that exactly what Republicans are always saying they want????? (Correction: it's what they say they want whenever a Dem is in the White House) It is also shocking that you are less concerned with how the spending in the bill will help Americans by lowering the price of energy and healthcare (which eases inflation) than you are with how they may help Republicans in the midterms. It is clear that Republicans hate Democrats more than they love helping Americans (and veterans, as we saw when they voted down the burn-pit bill last week).
1
@michaelroberts7770 No. Contrary to what Republicans keep insiting, no one was told to stop drilling. When I say it calls for more drilling, I mean it literally hands out money for energy projects, both clean and dirty. Republicans are looking sooo hard for ways to make it look bad, even though it gives them exactly what they want. And pays for it by closing tax loopholes on big corporations.
1
@b.d.walters9402 All that time you spent writing me a book, you could have been reading the bill yourself (or at least a summary) to find out how it will help you. Instead of asking someone on the internet who you don't know or trust. In terms of WE THE PEOPLE and your VOICE, we had a 2020 election. Democrats got more votes. That's how democracy works. The end. No wonder Republicans seem to want to get rid of democracy. They feel like they are entititled to run things even when AMERICA votes them out.
1
@charlesvan13 It only has a tax increase on the massive corporations that use accounting tricks to pay no taxes. But the Republican attempt to say that it will increase taxes on all Americans is an outright lie. And beyond that, why shouldn't billion dollar companies paying 0% tax pay at least 15% when every other company is paying 21%? It's about FAIRNESS. And in exchange, we get cheaper energy and cheaper healthcare. Saving Americans money by closing tax loopholes on big businesses. This is a good bill.
1
@charlesvan13 You know as well as I do that the idea that we're in a "recession" is subjective. Yes, the economy is slowing from overheated 2021 levels that caused inflation. Meanwhile, unemployment is at record lows and corporations are making record profits. And beyond that, the only companies affected are the few making $1 billion or more and paying 0% tax. Which is only about 55 companies. AND the tax money will still be spent on the economy in energy and healthcare. All those facts considered, the economic theory you're arguing does not neatly apply. It looks like you're just fishing for reasons to be against something that will directly help most Americans.
1
@meta_pyx Why does it matter. We are talking about only the companies that pay NO taxes. Somehow they have fooled Republicans into arguing why they should pay NO taxes.
1
Actually he's not lying. The bill truly doesn't increase taxes on ordinary people. The Wall Street Journal and New York Post both wrote highly misleading articles. Basically corporations that currently pay NO taxes might pass on some of their new tax bill to ordinary people, so the newspapers oversimplified and said that "everyone's taxes are going up", which is a pure outright lie.
1
This bill LOWERS the deficit. AKA we are paying our bills.
1
@jeremiahjohnson4508 In all honesty, that seems to be the goal of Fox News. To get their viewers to distrust all sides. If you trust no one, then you will want to tear down the system. Hence the growth in anti-government feelings that leads people to do stupid things.
1
@rh6625 Raising taxes does NOT inevitably reduce GDP and create joblessness. Just like cutting taxes does NOT inevitably increase GDP and create more jobs. In many of cases, the only thing that changes is the profits funneled to rich investors. Also, the ONLY companies paying more taxes are the few billion-dollar companies that are now paying NO taxes. This is very important to recognize before throwing a fit. And also that tax money will still be spent elsewhere, boosting GDP. In this case -- > 1. Dirty energy investments. 2. Clean energy investments. 3. Healthcare investments. None of this stuff is bad. The taxes are fair and the spending specifics are in general good for America. All of this together makes it seem like Republicans are only against it because Democrats are for it.
1
@rh6625 So investors will have slightly less money because 55 billion-dollar businesses are not going to be able to pay 0% tax anymore. The vast majority of Americans are fine with that. It's called FAIRNESS. Something Republicans seem not to care much about after they tried to illegally overturn an election in which most Americans voted against them. And in exchange for making billion-dollar businesses play FAIR, Americans will get cheaper energy (both clean and dirty) and cheaper healthcare. Things Republicans always claim to care about... until the wrong president supports them.
1
Spending is balanced by FINALLY taxing the 55 big billion-dollar corporations that pay NO taxes, and it pays down the deficit. Equalizes a system where certain billion-dollar companies use accounting tricks pay NO taxes while every other company pays 21%. Brings down the price of energy and healthcare. And lowers the deficit. None of that is bad for America.... except for the fact that it was Democrats that came up with the idea.
1
@jasonwebster8027 Republicans have been bamboozled into arguing that some billion-dollar corporations shouldn't have to pay ANY taxes.

1
@copperclawz Corporations DO pay a flat tax. It's 21%. But like you said, there are loopholes. Manchin would like to close them. But Republicans are being bamboozled into arguing that the system should stay unfair
1
Ain't it strange how the party that praises white supremacists TODAY is criticizing Democrats for praising white supremacists 150 years ago? Come back here when Republicans finally elect a black president.
1
The IRS staffing increases is meant to catch tax dodgers. It is part of what finances the bill. The IRS has been doing less audits of rich people every year because it is underfunded. Are you rooting for people who break the law by dogdging taxes? Party of law and order

1
@dr.burtgummerfan439 No need. I'll repeat: his bill brings in MORE revenue than it spends. Republicans are literally mad that Democrats came up with a bill that makes too much sense not to pass. Lol
1
@dr.burtgummerfan439 No, they are NOT saying that. Maybe the cherrypicked commentators YOU are listening to on Fox are saying that. But Fox's main purpose for existing is to be anti-Democrat. ACTUAL studies say it will have a negligible impact on inflation... meaning not better and not worse. Feel free to fact check me. Stop assuming and go look up the ACTUAL studies
1
@dr.burtgummerfan439 Who said anything about deficit spending? For the third time, it LOWERS the deficit. Stop trying to invent something that's not there.
1
@robinw.darnell4269 Youre right. Manchin got something in return. Schumer offered him dirty energy and pipelines. Given that you supposedly know so much about this deal, I'm honestly shocked you didn't know that.
