So...Venezuela is one example of ‘socialism’. Germany and Finland are other ‘socialist’ countries. I think the point is who is your leader and what are your laws, as in any country.

jon rudd “Their economic development is spurred by the independent market - capitalism” AND THEY HAVE STRONG SOCIAL PROGRAMS. Hence the socialism (or capitalism with a socialist component). You can define it however you want, but obviously that is what these Presidential candidates want. You don’t HAVE to be against it just because you’re not a Democrat. It’s foolish and stupid to suggest that they want us to have a government like Venezuela’s. Don’t go around telling people lies that all the Democratic presidential candidates want us to have a government like Venezuela’s. Actually LISTEN to what they are offering and think it through. Free school, free health care (plus private paid options)— all things that work in MANY other countries and they pay less than half of what we do (if anything) for equal/better education and healthcare.

@jonrudd4733 I get. True, it's not REALLY free. We would pay higher taxes, yes. Not everyone likes that. But it is all going to something that is objectively positive. People won't go into debt to get an education. People won't go bankrupt or die because of healthcare cost. There will still be rich people and billionaires. Our system is set up to make people money, not help people, which is what the government is supposedly there to do. And the people in the vast majority of developed nations (including Canada, our next door neighbor) would revolt if they had to have a selfish system like ours. Forget Ronald Reagan's BS about "I'm the government and I here to help" fearmongering.

jon rudd WHY won’t it work? I don’t mean ‘pure’ socialism. I just named SEVERAL countries more socialist than ours that are working. Countries where they are not always having these fights because the majority of people are content having a system with both private AND public options. In the US we fight over the same issues constantly because one sides wants to provide something reasonable for the people and the other side doesn’t (because they want to save money on taxes and then later spend that same saved money on education and health insurance). Not to mention that the price of school and healthcare would be forced down if the government negotiated the price. Canada, England, Finland, Germany, on and on and on. So WHY won’t it work here? I don’t think Hannity will tell you, other than scaring you into thinking that we will turn out like Venezuela no matter what.

Nathan N She did not say anything about banning us from using planes. She said hopefully, one day we won’t have to use them, because they’re bad for the environment. Hannity and Tucker are literally LYING TO YOUR FACE.

jon rudd It WILL work if you have a public AND a private system. You’re not listening. You should have BOTH. Like England. We will have the best of BOTH worlds. Lower cost and more widespread care. If you want to pay for private insurance, you can. At the very least, why not do a trial run to see if it can work here???? Maybe you don’t have to pay higher taxes if you buy private education/insurance. Taxes are not the end of the world. It is your ideology that tells you that taxes and the government are bad. Those beliefs are at the heart of the Republican Party. But it is an OPINION. That is why half the country disagrees with you.

Nathan N These low class, low iq liars. You referring to the US ‘president’? Nearly 9,000 lies or misleading statements. Can’t spell or read a report. And can’t learn. Do you care about that? Oh the hypocrisy

Nathan N It seems you are upset that most professors are liberal. Well maybe you should become a professor then, help right the system. Just as an aside, I believe most professors are liberal because 1) They spend all their time around young people with all their new ideas and 2) Research and discovery do not fit very well with a conservative personality
