  6.  @FWBromberg  A lot of times, pet projects are needed to get enough votes for passage. Yes, you are buying someone's vote so they have something to go home and tell their constituents about. Also, what counts as ridiculous spending to you? I hear this a lot from conservatives, but they are never able to specify anything they would actually cut that would save more than 0.0001% of spending. Which means they are just looking for reasons to complain without offering meaningful solutions.
