I think Obamacare is supposed to be an IMPROVEMENT on how things used to be. Keep in mind, most people are not on actual Obamacare plans. Its only for people who: 1. don't get insurance from work but 2. still make too much money to qualify for Medicaid And you do get help from subsidies up to an income of like $75,000 (so theoretically it's only people with incomes over that level who are suffering). Still, I admit it's not it's the best situation to be in (for the maybe 2% of people in that situation). Which is why Democrats would like to have a government-run public option to hopefully compete with private insurance and drive down the price. It is my understanding that before Obamacare, things were actually WORSE for people in your situation (as far as access to coverage, price, and covered procedures).

@sahmom6285 Obamacare only sucks for people who: 1. Don't get insurance through their jobs (most people do) 2. Make too much money to qualify for Medicaid AND 3. Make too much money to qualify for government subsidies (so over $75,000) AND 4. Are not old enough to qualify for Medicare. Only about 1 or 2 percent of Americans fall into all 4 categories (about 2 million people). But if you happen to fall into that 1 or 2 percent, I admit it's not the best place to be. And as Democrats have said, that is why they want to EXPAND SUBSIDIES and pass a GOVERNMENT OPTION to compete and drive down costs. The government option was in the original Obamacare plan but it didn't have the votes. The alternative is killing Obamacare with all the pain that entails for literally over 100 million Americans with preexisting conditions. FIX Obamacare, don't kill it. Tell Republicans to stop trying to kill it just because it was passed by Democrats. FIX IT. It's not unfixable.

@sahmom6285 So yes, some middle-class people who actually have Obamacare are suffering. Let Democrats expand subsidies to cover people with higher incomes. Problem solved. Or I suppose you could root for Republicans just kill it and cause a self-inflicted national crisis. Personally, I would prefer to just expand subsidies to cover more people. Honestly seems like common sense, but Republicans don't wanna do it. Because they have spent the last 10 years telling their constituents that Obamacare has got to go.

@CChissel Almost all full-time employees in the U.S. have employer-provided insurance. Part of Obamacare states that businesses with more than 50 employees must offer insurance to all full-time employees (anyone who works over 30 hours per week). But this was true even before Obamacare, because most employees want health benefits from ther jobs. I dont believe that applies to contractors. That's why half the time I dont believe people online when they talk about how expensive Obamacare is. Because the vast majority of people do not have an Obamacare plan. And 80 percent of those who do have one actually qualify for subsidies to make it affordable.

Kay Wiley Exactly. Republicans hate spending money to help people.....unless it helps them
4
@Teemoney901 That's why Democrats want to increase the subsidies

Cali Marie Your first mistake: 1. New York does not have Medicare for all 2. they are not bankrupt (where are you getting your information???) How is Trump keeping preexisting conditions coverage? He's fighting to get rid of the Affordable Care Act. Once it's gone, it will be illegal for anyone to make insurance companies cover you. And as has been pointed out repeatedly for the past 4 years. He and Republicans DO NOT have a plan to protect you. It's an empty promise. You're basically admitting that you have access to a healthcare plan for low income but you're "too good for it." Well that sounds like a personal problem. In fact, why don't you find a job that offers health insurance then? Rather than refusing Medicaid and blaming Obamacare for your problems. You just told me that you chose to be in the position you're in because you're "not interested in Medicaid." God gave you free will so you can stop blaming other people for your problems. I don't think you understand. Republicans DO NOT CARE if you have health insurance. They don't care if your insurance is better or cheaper. They want companies to make money. PERIOD.
2
Cali Marie I will never understand how Republicans keep deliberately breaking things in government and then pointing to what they broke as evidence of why government is bad. On education, on healthcare, everything. For political reasons, Republicans refused to expand Medicaid when it was 90% paid for by the federal government. So now you don't have health insurance but you blame Obamacare. Really? Smh. Red-state problems deliberately caused by red-state Republicans. It's not rational to deny people health insurance for political reasons.
2
Cali Marie Yes, I understand that Trump built on the great hand that Obama dealt him (good stock market and falling unemployment). Too bad he mishandled the pandemic or we might still have a good economy. Unfortunately, Biden will enter office with the disastrous hand that Trump has dealt him. Now, what does any of this have to do with Obamacare? I thought we were talking about why Republicans prevented you from having healthcare. You could have had Medicaid!! And if you made too much for Medicaid, Obamacare would be very affordable unless you make over $75,000, which you don't (Obamacare is for LOW INCOME people with no insurance from their job)
2
Cali Marie Biden doesn't want to "kill" the ACA with a public option. The original ACA literally had a public option in it, but it was one vote short of passing so they took it out. How do you not know this??? Also, plenty of countries have private insurance AND public insurance. Britain, France, and Costa Rica are a few. And they are not socialist. Not a single country on the planet with a public insurance option wants a system like ours. Our system is WAAAAAAAY too expensive. You're lack of knowledge about the ACA and public healthcare is very surprising given how adamantly you want it killed. I'm not joking. This whole conversation you have shown a lack of knowledge of about ACA while at the same time being totally against it.
2
@cojo582 Your deductible might have doubled. Which is why we want to EXPAND SUBSIDIES so you can afford a plan with a lower deductible. Why would you rather screw over 100 million people with preexisting conditions and take away insurance from 25 million than just ask Democrats and Republicans to INCREASE THE SUBSIDIES? It's not rational to kill Obamacare with no replacement plan. The only reason to do it is to stick it to the Democrats. Which seems like the plan all along.
2
@theoriginalkrabbypatty It's not going to pass before the election. 1. Democrats are not going to let Trump put his name on another stimulus check right before the election. 2. Republicans don't want to spend a lot of money to help Trump when they think he's going to lose. So what will happen is: A: Trump wins and Republicans keep the Senate...a medium sized stimulus bill will pass (okay for the economy and saves money) B: Biden wins and Republicans keep the Senate....an extremely small stiumulus bill will pass (bad for the economy to hurt Biden) C: Biden wins and Republicans lose the Senate....an extremely large bill will pass (best for the economy but expensive)
2
Cali Marie Yes, I know subsidies are taxpayer funded. I'm okay with that. I was not raised from birth (or weaned on Fox News) to hate my own federal government. I don't care how "small" or "big" it is as long as it works (preferably without daily chaos). Taxes are fine with me as long as they are going to a noble cause (access to a good education and healthcare for my fellow countrymen are about as noble as you can get)
2
Cali Marie So what does all that have to do with Obamacare?
1
Cali Marie You have to earn $12,000 because your state failed to expand Medicaid under the ACA. Sounds like a red-state problem. Under the law, the federal government pays 90% of the cost of expanded coverage. So no, it doesn't bankrupt states. If New York is having Medicaid problems, it's because they were already having problems. So it's your governor's fault you don't have health insurance. You fall into the gap in coverage caused by red-state Republicans who want to do you the "favor" of keeping free government healthcare out of your life. Good luck 👍

Cali Marie I don't mind school choice IF it doesn't take away resources and funding for underperforming public schools in poorer communities. Really, who wouldn't want to go to a better school. The problem with school choice is its potential to hurt people who are already disadvantaged. Because it's simply not possible for everyone to get to go to the best school. But I welcome the debate. However, there is ZERO evidence that a public option would lead to worse care. As you already know, almost all advanced nations have some sort of public health insurance system. And most of them have quality of care fairly equivalent to ours. And not a single one wants a purely private system like we have because it causes so much needless financial suffering. Imagine not having insurance and you need a root canal here in the US. Or break an arm or have a heart attack. You are SCREWED. What's funny is if Trump came out supporting the public option, his supporters would surely follow. Because there is nothing inherently wrong with giving people more choice. It's just that conservatives don't mind how many people suffer, as long as the get to "conserve" the status quo.
1
Cali Marie Am I the only one who finds it ironic that you blame Democrats for giving out handouts, meanwhile you're sitting there with no health coverage lol. It's called a "safety net" for a reason. Most people get insurance from their job. You don't. But you purposely made sure you fell outside the net. And now you want to blame someone else for your choice. Lol. When we talk about people voting Republican against their own self-interest, you are EXACTLY who we're talking about. You know it, but you don't care. Because you were raised to hate big government. I'm pretty sure I'd rather wait a month for the doctor to see me than not be able to see one at all.
1
Cali Marie I'm pretty sure I'd rather wait a month for the doctor to see me than not be able to see one at all. But that's just my opinion 🤷♂️
1
Cali Marie Our doctors on average are not any better than what they have in other advanced countries. Maybe if you have some super duper rare disease you might find that one specialist who can help you here in the US. But in general, other countries have doctors just as good as ours. They all spend years and years doing the same training and treating the same kinds of patients. So really, we're just paying way more for the same care. And you in particular can't even see a doctor even if you wanted to because you have no insurance. But yay, you got to keep big gu'mint out of your life.
1
Cali Marie Yes, you're correct that the aca caused companies to limit their hours. Democrats didn't think companies would do that that to avoid giving out benefits (they should have). So the law needs improvements and adjustments, EVERYONE admits that. But Republicans have no interest in working to fix it. They want to kill it with no replacement and cause a nationwide crisis. I will remind you that Obamacare actually was the Republican plan. But Dems passed it into law. Uh-oh, stolen plan. That's why Republicans have no other plan to replace it. As someone who follows politics, I'm sure you're aware of this.
1
Cali Marie First of all, I'm not "controlled" by the federal government. And neither are you. That is a learned behavior to have so much dislike for the federal government. From family, friends, the particular media you consume. Republicans have been spreading that fear since Reagan was in office. The federal government has very little effect on your daily life. Ironically, the president most like a tyrant (gasing protestors, breaking numerous laws, installing family members in top government positions, separating kids from their parents) is Donald Trump. But you don't mind him....you think providing access to healthcare is worse. You think taxing rich people is worse (even though you have no chance of becoming rich).
1
@jenniferstewart5849 What did Kamala lie about? I'm sure you can be more specific than that.
1
@mikesmith6267 No one EVER said Joe Biden is for fracking. What Kamala said is Joe Biden will not "ban" franking. There's a difference. She was very clear. So no, Kamala did NOT lie. P.S. You do not get to call other people liars if you support Donald Trump. The hypocrisy is heavy enough to sink an entire fleet of cruise ships.
1
@mikesmith6267 And now he says he's NOT banning fracking. As you know, its very common for candidates to adjust their positions after the primaries to appeal to a larger crowd. So again, Kamala Harris is not lying. Joe Biden's official position is to NOT ban fracking.
