at one time, when the "English' had one room school houses.... there were first graders and eight graders in the same room. It is quite possible that in some rural areas, it still exists today

Peter is very respectful when interviewing people -- I would recommend if you have not already done so, watching some of his other videos!

many people do -- those who send their children to private schools do, those who never had children do, those who's children are long grown and are grandparents do...... and imagine if the public school was limited to the amount of money the parents could pay (like in this case) how more careful they would be with their resources!!

and you prefer the current public school system where it is all about me? BTW, at one time in the US, the public school system was just like the Amish school in this video (except the Pledge of Allegiance)

are you former Amish? Do school children get shunned? I thought you had to be a church member to be shunned?
3
if the person was willing to become a member of the Amish church, then yes
3
huh? what do you define as a 'good education ' and 'religious'?
2
@Mrvalle420 depending on the community, yes!
2
why would you attend an Amish school if you are a member of the LDS church?
2
no they would not have a picture of Christ because nobody has a picture -- there were not cameras around 2000 years ago. In general, Amish do not have pictures around their home ... if they have picture frames on the wall, in general it may be a nature picture.
2
why not consider taking one hour a day as 'tech free' ... then two hours... etc. Obviously, you would still need it for work, but you may be amazed how different your life may be with less tech/ stress in your life !
2
they would go to on the job training..... think like vo-tech........
2
Amish use the regular internet today so why would they use dial up in 200 years?
1
 @bobritchie6720 I like that ! so true!
1
each child would bring their own lunch
1
children act like children no matter where they live :-)
1
there are broken families but regarding unemployment -- the Bible says no work, no eat. Each member of the family has a job whether inside or outside the home.
1
they have cold storage in the basement for the foods they can and refrigerators and freezers for those who don't use electricity are run by propane
1
and the younger learn from the older as well
1
@marze5919 I said nothing about 'good old days'... I was just reminding you that this is not an Islamic practice only, rather, this is how school was a few decades ago .
1
many people pay real estate taxes but don't use the schools -- whether they don't have children, or they homeschool or send them to parochial schools
1
no - they don't have insurance they pay cash and if it is a traumatic event ... the community gets together to help them out. Just like the "English" babies are born at home, birthing center or hospital, They use technology for business, but not to waste time on it for fun. If someone wanted to go further with their education, they would not join the church but rather become "English"
1
no different than any other culture
1
seems like Brian warmed up to being on camera because he (Brian) did not move away from the direction of the camera
1
many of us pay for services through taxes that we will never use
1
with electricity comes other tempations ..For example, the internet is good for business ..but the temptation is there to get involved in other things and/or waste time that can be used in other productive things.... like YT videos!
1
many people pay taxes but don't get any benefit from it
1
@torigore4325 I had not heard that before -- what have you heard them say about LDS? (not gossip, what you have actually heard said) TYIA
1
many Amish have annual Auctions to fund schools and/or for medical funds for the community. Find a community that you want to support and inquire about any Auctions they may have -- you can also support them by visiting their businesses. I don't think they would take what we would call donations of money.
1
@torigore4325 I am curious, how is attending an Amish school going to prove that LDS isn't a cult?
1
Amish pay taxes. If they work for non Amish -- they will pay Social Security but not if they work for another Amish BUT they don't take Social Security or Disability from the government services
1
They don't want government teachers -- just like those who choose to home school or other private schools -- they want someone like minded to teach their children :-)
1
what continent do you live on?
1
they would require the same permits anyone else in their community would need to get
1
because that is how they choose to live :-)
1
in general , Amish only
1
private schools have to do the same..
1
it would be interesting to test an Amish 8th grade class vs a public school grade class and see the results..... and they are living in the 21 st century like you and I .
1
nope!
1
did you go to an Amish school to know it was subpar?
1
why do you feel that way?
1
you have never had an interaction with an Amish person, have you? If you did, you would not have made that comment. They have a formal education until 8 grade and then they specialize in what they want to do with their lives -- just like vo-tech in public schools.
1
@flashflame4952 and we learn everyday if we keep our mind open -- learning does not stop when we leave the classroom!s learning day to day skills and on the job training is very important. How many learn and get a 'degree' but can't function in the real world because book learning and real life are two different things
1
if they choose to become a doctor, lawyer, etc. they would not join the Amish community and enter the English world.
