Comments by "Geoff Challis" (@Geffo555) on "Debate: Has Brexit split the country too much? Will Self & Lionel Shriver" video.
The ins/outs rights/wrongs aside, Brexit has been the most divisive and toxic period in our history since the civil war. And we are certainly not a United Kingdom.

To Err is Huma . Did Murdoch not make that statement? And the simple fact is that many people do download their opinions from the Scum and Mail. I could be standing in any Spoons tonight and listening to the same dumb slogans parroted at the bar. All just ready made opinions for the braindead. You may not be gullible but you think everyone else is. Hmmm. What's your angle?
7
@shanehull6235 . Yeah. Sadly had similar responses from family members who are pro Brexit. Seems like a form of brainwashing to me. "I didn't vote for a deal!" is the latest one. All these slogans are just ready made opinions for the braindead. The Sun and Mail have addled us as a nation. That's why we're in such a mess right now I believe.
7
@popculture70 . Well put Simon. A lot of people just download their opinions from the Sun and Daily Mail. Both Newspapers (??) owned by corporate moguls obviously. I wonder why Murdoch and co have been selling brexit from the start. Financial gain possibly. Their readers won't get any financial gain at all but there you go.
6
@Tehgoat . Says it all.
5
Leavers voted "out" About a third of the country in all (Adults) The rest either abstained or saw through Farage's fairy tail as I did.
5
He's just pointing out a clear truth. Brexit has divided us and far right doctrine has shaped the whole Brexit business. Just consider some of the comments on this page and others. Sheesh! They certainly sound like fascists to me.
4
@Daniel-oz5dm . And they're also trying to convince us that we're not divided, and that all "the people" want Brexit. All they have left now is bullshit.
4
To Err is Huma . Oh I see your point now. The Murdoch quote was Teh Goat's comment. Still don't get the rest of your stuff though. Just too supercilious for my taste.
3
To Err is Huma . Well you're not exactly Stephen Hawking either. If you did possess a high IQ I expect you could defeat our arguments without resorting to juvenle insults. Have you always been like this or did you actually have principles at one time?
3
Isn't Mogg one of the elites? And the "People" is all of us, which includes 16 odd million remainers (2016) and a lot of abstainers. Leave voters actually only make up about a third of adults in the UK.
3
@Halebopp97 ,. Vote Leave shat all over democracy. They were fined twice. Employed a slick tech company to get at people via Facebook. They based their campaign upon bullshit about Turkey and millions for the NHS. Even the money that funded them looks dodgy. So the referendum was easily the most corrupt example of democracy since the days of rotten boroughs.
2
@tubemonks . The referendum was mis-sold and based upon bullshit. Vote leave have been twice fined and employed unacceptable strategies in their campaign. So don't lecture us about democracy.
2
@blackphilip8936 . What a load of! You go on about the "Elites" not seeing it coming but what about the likes of Rees-Mogg? How elite is he? Or Raab or Hannan for that matter. Then you have the corporate press like the Sun and Mail. They have been pushing Brexit since day one. In fact, it's a devious elite that want Brexit, and they've tricked a lot of people into believing their bullshit.
2
How about some common sense.
2
To Err is Huma . What are you trying to say? And why the big spaces?
2
To Err is Huma . Do you know Nairda? He/she uses a very similar technique to your own. Oh, in case you missed it, Vote Leave have withdrawn their appeal against the electoral commission. An admission of guilt really. But you no doubt have some evasive and shallow excuse.
2
Smart guy though. He did a lot of recreational H when he was younger I believe.
2
It's crass and robs society of diversity.
2
@peetsnort . I was referring to the clear fact that Brexit has divided us. This is self=evident surely regardless of whether someone is a leaver or remainer.
1
To Err is Huma . And still employing the same diversionary strategy I see. What are you up to fella? What are you hoping to achieve? And what do you make of Vote leave's acceptance of the Electoral Commission's charge?
1
To Err is Huma . Why is it that you resort to silly insults and have to evade every unfortunate FACT about Brexit? Why do you need to impress upon everyone just how intellectually superior you are? Perhaps you do have a sharp intellect. Perhaps you have the benefit of a good education. But why employ these advantages in such a clearly disingenuous and conniving way? Are you darkly deluded or simply trying to delude others? One thing is for sure though. Your mind certainly isn't spotless.
1
To Err is Huma . Do you ever say anything of value? To anyone? Ever? It's just that you seem like a void to me. Like someone who has been consumed by their own nihilism. You may as well just be an AI program spouting random put-downs. I certainly can't discern a single worthwhile point in your comments. You're not even interesting. Give me a single word that expresses your inner state.
1
Utter nonsense. Where did it say on the ballot form "Tick here to leave without a deal"? Where did it state in Vote Leave literature that "We will leave without a deal"? In fact it stated the reverse. " There is no need to rush. We must take our time and get it right." So is this getting it right?
1
Lei P . Democracy is ongoing. And considering how tainted the last referendum was I think a rerun is the wisest course. Vote Leave were twice fined and employed a very dodgy strategy. All that Facebook stuff and bullshit. Hardly fair really.
1
@Jack-fs2im . So was securing a good DEAL.
1
@Jack-fs2im . Conservative manifesto short (Page 24) long version (Page 36) "We will secure the best DEAL available." Labour manifesto said they would secure a Brexit deal that does not threaten jobs or rights. Check it yourself.
1
@Jack-fs2im . Why are you bugging me about Catalonia? I'm not a politician. And our own predicament is right here and NOW!
1
@Jack-fs2im . Oh, and don;t forget old Boris. "“There is no plan for no deal because we are going to get a great deal." Or "We could end up with a no-deal by accident." Jeremy Hunt. So who voted for an accident?
1
@Jack-fs2im . I don't know enough about Spanish politics to give an opinion. Neither do I fully understand the complexities of WTO commerce. But then neither does Mr Mogg or the ERG. Securing a beneficial Brexit deal was clearly in both manifestos though.
1
@Jack-fs2im . Well thank you for the lecture but our domestic situation is all that concerns me at this time. For the sake of balance I hope that a reasoned compromise can be reached. But a no-deal is certainly not a compromise and must be avoided regardless of any other consideration.
1
@Jack-fs2im . Which is why I would accept a reasoned compromise. I'm not sure that such a resolution is possible though. Despite Friday's vote I doubt that the ERG will accept anything less than a no-deal Brexit, and too many people have been mesmerised into belief. I fear this will only get worse.
1
@Jack-fs2im . A reasonable analysis Jack. The concern though is that both fighters may sustain irreversible damage. As a remainer I obviously find a new referendum acceptable, and as I already said, the last one was hardly that fair. But I accept that sincere Leavers have a valid argument. (I have Brexiters in my own family) The future of our country cannot be reduced to simplistic slogans though and Brexit must be measured on truth.
1
@archiebunker4108 . I said tainted. And given that Vote Leave have been fined twice and employed a tech company to get at people on Facebook I think tainted is more than fair. I could have said downright corrupt really. Only yesterday Mark Zuckerberg called for greater regulation to protect electoral integrity. "Integrity" Hmmm.
1
@alanbstard4 . Not you obviously.
