1. The RAF cannot allow the Government to do anything, it works the other way around. The Government tells the RAF what to do through the MOD and then the RAF does it. Civilian control of a country's military is of paramount importance else you'll have a coup and this is a bad thing. There is no foreign country teaching RAF and RN pilots how to fly, all instructors are RAF or RN - the aircraft are foreign but will be flown in the UK and on the UK aircraft register.
2. The aircraft that are being bought are not being bought by the RAF but by Ascent Flight Training through a sub-contractor called Affinity under a construct called UKMFTS. The RAF has little interest in the aircraft being bought as long as it satisfies a 'requirement set' that myself and my team of people have written for the RAF that is approved at the highest level. And this is the strange bit - the 'requirements' specify what the student pilot has to experience and be taught through his training. If Ascent had found just one aircraft that could satisfy the retirement set then I'd have been happy to allow that to happen. As it is, flying is really difficult and requires a stepping stone approach starting with small less powerful aircraft and ending with ones that resemble those on the front-line. What aircraft they provided just had to satisfy the requirements which they did with buying 3 aircraft for elementary, basic and advanced fast jet flying training. The T6 is not a 'pig's ear' - it is used by 8 militaries across the globe, there have been over 850 ever made and has a usable life of 18,000 flying hours - more than 3 times that of a comparative aircraft. Every aircraft will need modifying just like when you buy a car. If you bought a BMW M3 with no heated seats, no sat nav, no radio etc you'd say that is was a rubbish car but that's because you didn't specify those extras. The T6 is the same - we spec'd it to a super high standard because we believe that our pilots should be trained to the highest standards and leave nothing to chance. It is a great aircraft for the stage of flying training that it is designed for.
3. I couldn't find an aircraft made in the UK to buy for this stage of training - you might try and find one - we bought the BAES Hawk T2 for advanced and that's British. We would always encourage buying British, any nation would be stupid to not try and keep money flowing internally - this is the reason you do not see RAF pilots flying F-16s or F-15s etc. The F-35 is heavily British btw.
4. Honestly, I went out to the US thinking that I would hate this aircraft but I came away realising that it is an absolute workhorse and the people who build it are passionate about what they do. There is no hard sell - they just offer a very comprehensive product with some solid support.

You probably will, especially if you are this defeatist in real life. It's a flight school and I expect certain behaviours - I treat my students as if they were RAF students so leave your negativity at the door and, if you do decide to join, I'll decide whether I want you in my school.
The top guys who join WANT to be there. Also, your computer is fine, it's a good rig - the reason you don't know whether 64Gb is good for DCS is because you haven't googled it - do the work, get yourself flying and then look to join if you feel you need help.
You won't get to fly with me one on one, it's very rare - you'll be in a class of 5 to 10 normally - private lessons are very costly although I help all who need it.
Now, get a positive attitude, you have no idea how RAF students are taught and, if you want to know, my school is the only place to find out but, let me tell you, they are not as negative as you so chin up!

Yes, of course. It's to do with speed and height, the seat is a zero zero seat meaning that it works at zero speed and zero height, it can be used just stationary in the aircraft on the ground. Now, the issue with speed is that, too high a speed and the parachute will be delayed (else it will tear) or if it deploys at too high speed, your internal organs separate and you die. Too low height and too low speed but with a high descent rate and the parachute doesn't have enough time to deploy. In this case on final approach, my rate of decent is about 8000 feet per minute so, using a rule of thumb of 1/10 rate of descent, below 800 feet, my ejection seat would hit the ground before full parachute deployment and its therefore unusable.

So I'll answer this now.
Young people read the stories of all the people I've helped, posted and do videos about, they learn from them, they apply to the military using the lessons they've learnt, and they finally pass.
But they don't want to share anything themselves.
That's not a team player and they will not survive flying training..
It doesn't work like that.
I'm always amazed that people write and ask me for help yet expect it to be a one way transaction.
If I was young and asked the former RAF Senior fast jet flying instructor for advice, I wouldn't state demands, I'd just say thank you.
Now, this young guy was civil, gracious, I removed his name and his message could not reveal who he was.
You don't get my help for free, I will socialise content so others can benefit, maybe you don't like that but it's not your help you're giving.

I treated myself as if I was already dead because that was where I was heading, therefore it didn't matter about how hard the recovery was (still is) because I was dead already.
Everyday was a bonus day once I stopped and one thing I didn't want to be was a victim to what the alcohol companies pushed, that their product was so powerful, people could never give it up.
I'm not a victim, I'll do it no matter the pain it brings me - have a think about that, you have nothing to lose it you consider yourself dead already.
It sounds like you are letting someone, who decided your past, dictate your future - only you should be doing that. Don't look at it like 'quitting', change that thinking to 'moving on to something else', you've done alcohol now, it's finished, move on.

OK Stuart, let's try and get my maths correct here. Alpha men has Vitamin D of 5 µg per 2 tablets so daily dose of 4 tablets is 10 µg. The interweb says that Vitamin D 1 IU (International Unit) = 0.025 microgram (µg) so 10 µg is (10/0.025) = 400 IU. The Vit D supplement I use has 2500 IU per tablet and I take about 3 a day over the winter so, with the Alpha Men, that puts it up to about 8000. I found in the darkest Afghan winter that 3 months of 10,000 was too much so I do an early build of about 10,000 for a month then I step it down to 5000 or 2500 IU. Now, everybody is different and nobody knows what each individual needs. If you are a sun bunny and you find sun in winter then I wouldn't take any but for an office worker who never gets out then I would supplement with Vit D. I weigh 200 lbs so the dose works for me, I would say that one 2500 IU tab is probably good for most 150 lbs guys over the winter but that's just from reading. I follow Mark Sissons and have done for a while - he takes 4000 to 10000 a day in winter, he says that overdose is common over 40000 IUs. Link below for the article.
The B6 from both products totals about 25 mg per day which is over the recommended FDA 2 mg but should not prove harmful unless over 1000 mg. Also, if your diet is good, you can remove the Alpha Men altogether - it's for people that need their breakfast cereal reinforced with vitamins because they want to eat beige food. I think, and correct me if you think I'm wrong here, but it is unusual to overdose on B6.

Yes, it's an interesting one - for me, the recognition that we can't 'think' our way out of mental issues was quite an eye-opener for me, in fact movement seemed to provide a better outcome for mental problems. I don't like going to others for help in a strictly one on one direct way but I do appreciate the gym, where everybody is trying to improve themselves - I see that as seeking help from others without actually being obvious about it. But sometimes you do need a person to hold you to account, my school is both a place where I will place demands, and my students will accept them, but also where they have many people to lean on - I think these two aspects are what make it popular as you can lean on the individual or the many as you see fit.
I think you'd do well to start helping others unconditionally, you'll get a lot back from it without initially realising it (you may be doing this already, work doesn't count though). Don't look at going to others for help as a one on one, look at it as a one on many - we are all suppose to be much closer than we are but often we need to initiate that interaction.

You have freedoms, not to have pink hair or to wear a nose ring so, yes, there are compromises to be made but you are with others who also recognise that there needs to be certain enforced discipline because of the organisation you are in and the role that needs to be fulfilled. I've never felt repressed but I would like to have a beard at some point (you can in the Navy) - we can only have moustaches! You can always live off-base post your initial training, it's just that, before you get married, it's more comfortable to be in the messes. You have a lot of freedoms in the Services, people wouldn't join otherwise and, as a nation, we are a very tolerant one. The RAF, incidentally, has the highest number of women of all three Services - just an interesting fact.
I was ordered to go to Iraq in 2003 to which I did not agree. The truth is you can either resign or go and I went as I felt that it was better that I was there than not there. I feel to this day that I was able to create tangible results in Iraq due to my presence in the country even though I didn't agree with our involvement. Incidentally, many people in the Services felt the same way I did; we do have a certain level of intellect and, unlike politicians, we don't have 'agendas'.

Respectfully, I think you miss the point, the argument that Hill was cognitively impaired was indisputable by the definition that, under g, there is less blood and therefore oxygen in the brain thus Hill 'is' cognitively impaired. Now, every pilot who flies under g is cognitively impaired for the same reason but that does not mean that the defence isn't correct with their argument especially when a jury who doesn't understand aviation is concerned. My real beliefs are in this video because we can never know whether Hill 'had a moment' but the defence was very clever and, in turn, was indefensible. Also, in military flying, we'd always have to fly if we'd had an argument with the wife of not eaten well but you learn your limits and compartmentalise emotion which you soon learn, when you leave the military, is very hard to undo.

I agree with your comment, not that it matters, of course. We had trans pilots in the RAF, honestly nobody cared, they flew and were good pilots, that's all that mattered. I don't think people realise that the Services are more diverse than they think and more inclusive that most civilian companies actually.

Lol, I left the RAF after 20 years on favourable terms, that's just a fact. My issue with the RAF only arose after the Chief decided to discriminate against people joining based purely on their sex and ethnicity - I failed to see you stand up against this, of course. Also, over the last 6 months, I've made 56 videos, 4 of which were on addiction/alcohol, so as for the channel becoming an 'AA tips and tricks channel', you are plainly wrong.
I think you might not enjoy my content, and that's OK, but if you would direct me to your channel, then I would be sure to look at the advice you so freely give. All I see from you is anonymity and vitriol, where not having your real name displayed saves you from any accountability.
Maybe look at the Grim Reapers, Growling Sidewinder - those channels might be more to your liking if you are after flying content that you feel you can't make time to provide yourself.
As for calling others 'cowards', I've never done that, and you can't provide an example - it seems you like to make up things about me. Maybe take a look at yourself and ask why you are so keen to criticise others before yourself.

That is an opinion that I could debate but I expect you know what I would say. I do support aspects of what Tommy is doing, I've spoken with him but the way he does things is counter-productive. My point is that the school is mine, I run it and my standards are exacting - I treat my students as if they were RAF students, no different and, in return,. I expect certain behaviours -simple ones ie. don't shoot each other in class time, don't fly under bridges etc. People often aren't used to having boundaries and set discipline, I think this is where you might be not understanding my intentions. There are other schools to fly in, some are even free but mine is not. People train with me because I hold them to account for their actions. This man I held to account and he let not only me down, but also all of those he had flown with during his time at the school. Imagine working next to someone at work and then one day they are gone, just left for another job and said nothing to you - it's like that, think about that for a while.

It was more to do with the way I was feeling especially after flying, normally I would feel very fatigued and I guess I just feel less so with the multi-vits.
When I take the multi-vitamins I just feel that I am making sure that I'm not missing anything - that's mainly because the food on the squadron tends to be bread and chocolate which, obviously, has little nutrient value. In all honesty, I agree with you that, if I removed anything from this stack it would be the multi-vitamins as I feel that my diet takes care of these. That said, ZMA or the zinc and magnesium helps with sleep tremendously, I find. I just feel like I've slept a lot better after taking these, this is a common finding from what I can tell. Vit D is all about mental health for me, I don't get the lows the I used to get before - it's the one thing that I would say take if you start to feel down especially in the winter months. I've read that 20 mins in the noon day sunni the summer is all you need to get the vit D you need if in Europe. I take these when I'm stuck in the office all winter. Nothing weird in the digestion area going on, just makes me feel better all round but, if I don't take them for a week or so, nothing bad happens.

Interestingly Stu, have you looked at whether you are getting quality down time? I find that I have to schedule uninterruptible relaxation, watch a movie, go for a walk, and leave the phone off/at home. There's a necessity to not just 'not be disturbed' but knowing that you can't be disturbed. If you have a high stress job, it's worth looking at. Also there is a line of thought that says that we are all wheat intolerant (and lactose) to some degree. Search the 'Primal Blueprint' by Mark Sissons for more info on it but grain does create micro-tears in the gut lining which can prevent micro-nutrient absorption from the foods we eat, that's why wheat based foods are fortified to help get nutrients in to you because grain is making it hard to do so. Mindfulness, meditation, maybe look into the WinHof method to get away from daily stresses - it only gets worse as you get older to you are right to sort your mental and physical health now. Also you could get your bloods done online now and then in a year and compare results. You seem to be on the right lines, keeping energy levels balanced is always hard which is why I avoid grain, wheat and simple carbs - get your carbs from vegetables.

I've trained both men and women to fly jets and the only difference is biological with women until they take birth control. Period pains cause huge discomfort because the g-pants press on the abdomen so they take the pill and it stops. There were no differences between male and female students in jets - I've spoken at length (on Lotuseaters etc) about the issue with women and having children and the cost to the taxpayer this incurs when they go absent from a squadron - yes, this is an issue, I've covered it hundreds of time BUT, in ability, they are no different to men in flying jets - that's just a fact, I pander to nobody especially the left and I'm offended that you think I would, there are many videos here that you have not seen, is all I can assume.
Now, infantry, sub-surface or surface warfare, yes - I'm sure women aren't suited to them, but that's not my area of expertise, military fast jet flying is, and they all were the same. If you get to the frontline on jets, you are good whether you are a man, woman or inbetween whatever that is.

@Sandhoeflyerhome OK, so you do understand that these pilots are trained for a very, very long time. Most fast jets have TCAS now, although the utility of TCAS at low level is questionable. If you are flying your rotary asset at 250 ft then there is every chance a jet mate might collect you, it's not a good place to be for you - in fact 250 to 2000 ft is FJ territory for LL ops but only in LFAs as you well know. Use CADS and NOTAM your routes, that's what we all do but training is hard, that's why fast jet pilots do it - I got the impression that you think we do it for fun, I could be wrong. I flew low level at night on NVGs, in and out of cloud and had to use the Terrain Following Radar for portions of the flight, I did this many times, it is dangerous, there are valleys and other jets are hunting us but it is necessary else we can't do it when required. For every fast jet that has been in the wrong, there are many more civilians I would stress who should have had better training. A military fast jet pilot is a job, it's all they do - they are very good at it but it's a hard one, 7 miles a minute whilst weaponeering a target is difficult - sometime lookout suffers, it's inevitable. But the precautions we put in, NOTAMing our routes, avoiding your areas that you've NOTAM'd if you have, the years of training, it all adds up to prevent us meeting up in a fiery ball of debris. Incidentally, aircraft can only be flown at speeds in excess of 250 kt below FL 100 with the specific permission of the CAA, the military has that exemption. You don't want a Tornado flying less than about 390 kts at low level, it just doesn't want to stay airborne with stores on. And a Hawk with less that 360 kts with a birdstrike to the engine gives the pilot very little engine out zoom climb performance - you have to consider these things, there's a lot more to it than you might think. The UK isn't too small for low flying, there really aren't that many jets flying any more - as for the 'no great pressing need', maybe that's because you've yet to understand the requirements of the modern battlefield. Want to know the best bit - I've never held a license in my life yet have 3000 hrs on military fast jets and, now I've left, I can't even legally fly a glider.

Optimal range? Well, climb at 350 kts until you get to about 0.7 Mach (around 13,000 ft) and then climb at that until you get to a height that is twice the range you need to go from the airfield to the other airfield or point at which you need to be at low level again. So, if I want to go 100 miles, I'll climb to FL 200 (about 20,000 ft). When I get there I'll cruise at about 0.6 Mach, that will be best for fuel preservation. Its a balance, you see - too fast and you're using too much fuel to have that speed because drag rises proportionally to speed - twice the speed is quadruple the drag. Now, also, if you go too slowly, the angle of attack increases which also increases drag and will use a lot of fuel.
Short answer, fly at 0.6 Mach for range but for normal ops where fuel isn't so much of a concern, cruise at 0.73 Mach 👍

Yes, apologies. Airmanship is like Road craft. When you learnt to drive, you knew how to do the gear changes and stear a car but you hadn't learnt road craft, that takes experience and it's the same as airmanship, it's hard to teach and is like checking oxygen, fuel levels, clearing turns on the climb and decent, comm discipline, internal crew comm, circuit discipline, self-debriefing, knowing not to 'push' the weather etc - I'll do a video on it.

It's probably very different for aircrew over other trades as the bonuses offered were far less than Saudi or other middle eastern countries were offering and the flying was often the thing you spent the least time doing so there was a pull factor that wasn't available to those not in the cockpit.
As for you saying that I am sending out the wrong message, I'd check with the RAF and MOD on that one. I was the guy that held the RAF to account and challenged them publicly for their discriminatory and illegal practises over the hiring of white men and at great personal cost. I must admit that I failed to hear you stand up for this so, I might well be sending out the wrong message in certain areas, but I don't see you sending out any messages of support at all.
I did 20 years before I even looked at any other career, how long would you suggest pilots do? The truth is that, when they leave the cockpit, unless they go overseas, pilots will have to do the full Airline Transport Pilots Licenses, the RAF does not have a road into civvie flying for them, so pilots do have to look elsewhere and I would recommend they do it earlier than I did.

@palopo-t3v My kid bro was military for 15 years, now flies 777, not everyone wants to step to civvie, I didn't and I stepped to businesses instead. Our countries are different, the UK is slowly being overtaken by the woke agenda or 'the message' but it has a long way to go until it gets like yours and I doubt it ever will. We are realists over here, steeped in history much like Spain is - we allow the diversity agenda to get so far but now we're kicking into touch and replacing it with meritocracy. How many black people do you see skiing for example, not many - is that because skiing is racist? No, are the mountains racist - probably mountains aren't racist but I'd have to check nowadays but we haven't hidden skiing from black people yet they still don't go - why is that?
For a start, there's less of them (13.8% in the UK are minorities), thus we see less and secondly, when I asked a black friend of mine, he said they just are more into summer holidays than winter ones. Do you want to try and get more black people skiing, maybe, just maybe, they don't want to ski and maybe they don't want to join the military and I hate the fact that I have to talk about races not individuals but what you are doing is wrong - pushing one race over another, any race over another just to feel saintly and virtuous so you can wave your pride flag or whatever you need to feel good about yourself in the morning. I want the best to be in that cockpit and it just might be a white man or a black women but it better be the best. I'm starting to think that getting Trump back in might not be a bad thing if it finally stops all this CRT nonsense.

I have this idea, it's pretty revolutionary - why don't we treat everybody equally, you know, like the jet does - it doesn't care what skin colour you have or what sex you are, it will kill you just the same if you aren't good enough?
Then we could maybe just recruit the best people, they might be white people, they might be black but, here's the thing, let's make sure they are the best people. You have a chip on your shoulder about race, I have a chip about merit. The Service is a hierarchal meritocratic institution where only the best will survive, literally. I don't care about colour or sex, I certainly don't use it to try and point score against former Service people - I'll do you a Youtube video if you want and you can discuss it in the comments.
