@monke2361 What you're saying is that 72 years ago, the media called the election. They called it wrong - or at least one newspaper did - but they called it. Their statistical methods have become more sophisticated since then, and they're more careful now. They really could have declared a winner sooner than they did, but they wanted to be certain that they were right.
