  1. Except for the fact that due to low density, and their infrastructure cost is higher than the taxes they generate, they are driving cities to the point of bankruptcy. They have only worked this long due to government subsidies, but those work last forever, nor should others be responsible for paying for your inefficient living style.

  4. It’s a catch 22, cities can’t support dense housing due to everyone needing to have a car, but they can’t support a metro due to no dense housing. I say we build the metro and allow the dense properties to develop around the stations, it may take a while but it would be good long term.

  9. It won’t be pretty but it’s necessary if we want to build stronger more sustainable city’s for generations to come. We should have never become so car dependent but car manufacturers and oil barons did their best to get us where we are now.

  20.  @Aeoxander do you build your own cars, or get them from a company? Do you harvest your own fuel, or get it from a company? Do you pave your own roads, or get them from a company? Do you fix your own car, or do you have a company do it? Your literally arguing for the opposite of what you want, America is the king of having the population reliant on corporations, public transport, and cites designed to be walked and biked would reduce, not increase reliance on companies.

  23.  @SERGEYTIMOFEYOVICH  it’s been a while since I have seen this specific video, so I don’t remember what all it touches on, but generally speaking his videos are great and quit informative. Plus suburbs don’t make enough in taxes to pay for their own infrastructure, it’s so bad that they are bankrupting cities and should be greatly reduced.

You point out that public transport demands high taxes, but that is precisely the problem with suburbs, they are dragging cities into bankruptcy due to their low density and high infrastructure cost, the only reason they work right now is because they are subsidized by government grants, but cities are reaching a critical point where the government grants to build new developments are not enough to repair old suburbs infrastructure. Not to mention the unsustainable cars, and while your children will have full freedom within your tiny backyard, they will be more imprisoned than ever as to leave the suburb they will need a car, and kids can’t drive.

  27. Are they in high demand, or are they simply the only available option? I could pull out a realtor app right now and find tons of single family homes for sale, but good luck finding a multi family apartment for sale in a decent area, and at a decent price.

  28.  @nunyabidness3075 banning cars within cities is not a ban on private transport, you have legs, bikes, even motorized bikes, ideally a metro which while not technically private is still there for your convenience, and on top of that you can still operate a car in the designated areas, all we are doing is trying to reduce our dependency on them, as things are now you can not live without a car which is how it was designed on purpose. Also you seem to not understand who the enemy is, Americas “government” is completely owned and operated by corporations thanks to our lack of anti corruption laws, both democrats and republicans are sponsored by the same corporations and therefore have the same agendas, they just pretend to be for different causes so that you have the illusion of choice. In that light, corporations and in turn our “government” actually love car dependency, it makes lots of money for car manufacturers and oil companies who have a lot of lobbying money, and it actually imprisons you more than not, you are 100% reliant on this singular mode of transportation. car shortage? Too bad. High gas prices? Out of luck. Can’t afford a car or gas even at the best of times? I guess you will have to be homeless because you can’t drive to a decent job. It keeps you poor and individualist making you the easiest to control, people only have power when standing together. For someone so concerned with being controlled, I’m surprised you can’t see the cage you are already in.

  31. I don’t think any property development should be left to private entities within city limits, it’s a shared space, and everyone should have a say in how it’s developed. You will never be able to trust someone who’s goal is profit to do things in the best interest of the community.

  36. I live in a suburb unfortunately, and I can’t even start a garden to grow food to eat, definitely not freedom, at least if there was more dense housing available (for sale not for rent) I would have a cheaper mortgage.

  37. Suburbs are definitely broken, the problem is just hidden behind federal subsidies for cities to maintain the unsustainable suburbs, if suburbs had to pay for all their own infrastructure, then most people living there now wouldn’t be able to afford to stay.

  40.  @Арчи-д5т  the infrastructure within suburbs cost more to maintain then the residence produce in taxes due to low density. As of now those repairs are subsidized by the parts of the city that actually bring in more tax revenue then their expenses (how we should build things), to pay for the suburbs that bring in less tax revenue then their expenses. And when those areas are not enough, then they get grants from the federal level, again taking money away from things it would be better spent on the roads for only 5-50 houses. I apologize, knowing what I know, the first comment makes perfect sense, but I can see how it would be confusing if you were unaware of the issue I was referring to. I can link some videos that can explain it much better then I can in a comment if you would like.

  42. So can apartments and condos, it’s only that American laws don’t allow for it, and capitalism focuses on profiting not beauty or function. Our cities are not designed well at the moment, but suburbs are not the answer as the infrastructure cost are higher then the taxes they generate, if suburb owners exclusively paid for their infrastructure most probably would not be able to afford to live there.

  43.  @marcusantimony7535  I’m glad your willing to pay for your extra cost, but I’m afraid most Suburbians probably would either not want to or not be able too, making the cost per a household even higher. If you like that style of living and have disposable income, I would recommend a home off grid in the country.

  45. Like all changes, it must be done slowly over time, ideally they would eventually have no cars inside city limits and you would be able to get everywhere with public transit. Those traveling from outside bathe city would be able to park their cars at train stations on the outskirts of town. This would free up TONs of space inside the city now that parking lots, garages, and roads are no longer needed for cars.
