@deepseeshell8926 actually it is ironic to hear talks of EU "values" not being respected, when at the core of those EU values are actually the criticized things. tolerance and liberal progressive "values" born out of 60's philosophies are good for the most part, but are not the traditional EU values.

i agree for the most part but there really are those who just want back to business as usual.

and on the other hand italians think that the east of europe are so belligerent because of a "different" ( intending lesser) culture which after all is not even that european because soviet times, and so on. made me sick hearing such narratives on tv.

keep reading because all of east EU has delivered soviet era weapons and equipment to Ukraine in exchange for Germany's newer equipment. so actually pretty much everybody is directly or indirectly contributing one way or another.

well look, germany depends for about 45% on russian gas, italy for about 40, austria and hungary much more. germany has had merkel for almost 2 decades who has worked on this dependency on russia, and berlusconi's italy the same. going too hard and too openly against russia is risky. if russia goes on to cut gas, many production chains will collapse on the same day, that means big chunks on each country's industry sector. lost jobs, high prices, deficits, hugh crises around the globe from stopped supply of parts etc. and that's only for gas, oil, natural resources. the idea is that russia has many leverages and friends within EU. in any case, the EU is always in a complicated spot where it has to manage many opposing pulls from all sides at the same time.

@jamth118 where are they "claiming" exactly? the EU represents its member nations, but somehow it went over your head. it provides multiple billions for the acquisition of those weapons. the complete lists with weapons and munitions are not really disclosed by countries for many and some obvious reasons. france has said to deliver caesar howitzers, it is know italy has provided FH70 howitzers already deployed and nobody said nothing within italy. artillery systems are the most needed "heavy stuff" and the actual game changer, and if these are provided, then the rest of needs are provided even more. although the shameful hesitation is real, let's not forget there are many things in play here for each nation and a lot of it has to move under the table at this stage.

@kubabadach8581 true but italy is as always the weirdest and most contradictory planet on earth. the hereditary parties of the old comunist party are nowadays the most pro atlantic pro nato. meanwhile the right which was formed back in the days also by people who invaded russia, are nowadays putins major fans literally, with photos at the red square and shit.

true but still there are historic friends and ties with russia within the bigs of EU. berlusconi, salvini are some of those and they are part of the governing coalition and playing the opposition game at the same time. all these internal struggles end up with proposals such as ukraine cede its territory to russia so peace comes sooner and we all "save more lives" "make peace" and get back to business as usual, back in our garden, back to our schemes of makin money disappear and so on.

@corvo6138 i agree, but at the same time lets not forget meloni is highly appreciative of orban. plus the media situation in itlay has always been far from good, and if she takes same steps as orban... Tbh italy internally is in a pretty bad shape.
