  1. My husband started life working in pubs and social clubs. Not much changed when the smoking ban came in. Back in the 80's we used to go for pub lunches near our places of work. Not much work used to get done when we returned. 😂 we used to say p*** off early its friday! Friday was the start of the weekend. My postie used to finish his work early and go to the pub every day. Posties couldn't do that now. There used to be 10 pubs in my area where I grew up. Great for pub crawls! Some parts of the bars were split. Not female or family friendly. If we knew the landlord we would have "lockins" Three have since shut in recent years and are now flats/houses. Super markets and their cheap booze killed off most pubs. Mens social clubs started shutting too. The whole work with social clubs scene has gone too. Pubs have adapted selling hot drinks, food and becoming more family friendly. Which is nice. I do prefer not coming home stinking of fags, i'm and ex smoker. I used to have to hang my leather jacket in the bathroom to steam the smoke smell out for days! I do like an old traditional country pub which insn't part of a big chain though like Yates and Wetherspoon. My eldest son absolutely refuses to drink in a chain pub! Think covid and rising energy prices have also helped kill them off!
