The poms were kicked out in 1962 after helping to develop SA to a stage where it could operate and develop on its own, remember all of the infrastructure they created, railways, schools, universities, hospitals, airports, roads, government buildings and administration which placed SA in a great position to go ahead. From there it was in the hands of the Afrikaaners and Broederbund so everything after that was up to them. As to the statement that the US was interfering in SA, you are spot on, been going on for years at the highest level with CIA Air America openly active during the times of conflict especially in Caprivi and out west where the diamonds were.
